The film opens on a ship where Barry Wilding (Leslie Fenton) and Julie Kenmore (Muriel Evans) meet on their way to England. On reaching there Barry finds out that he has inherited a house that belonged to his forefathers, to see how it looks like he goes there one night but finds out that it has been occupied by an old man and his daughter, the same girl he met on ship. The mystery evokes when he comes to know that suspicious people are after the house and strange things are happening.

An unemployed and dull-witted young man David Grey stays with his friend in Liverpool while he looks for work. Un tueur en série solitaire atteint de TOC, Jack, sévit dans l'état de Washington dans les années 1970 et 1980 pendant les mêmes années que le tueur à gages dit « Ice Man ». Alors que la police s'apprête à l'arrêter dans la chambre froide où il stocke ses victimes, Verge (qui est en fait Virgile) lui apparaît et le guide vers les enfers. Lors de leur voyage, Jack lui raconte son histoire personnelle coupée en cinq chapitres, chacun desquels est fondé sur un meurtre en particulier.
