Biographie

En 1909 il part de Liverpool avec sa mère pour les États-Unis puis travaille adolescent comme commis de bureau. Il débute au début des années 1920 une carrière d'acteur puis entame en 1939 une carrière de réalisateur où figure un bon nombre de westerns. Il épousa en 1932 l'actrice Anne Dvorak.
