The Grace Card is a 2010 Christian drama film directed by David G. Evans. It intends to illustrate the everyday opportunities that people have to rebuild relationships and heal deep wounds by extending and receiving God’s grace. The film stars Louis Gossett, Jr., Michael Higgenbottom and Michael Joiner. It was released on February 25, 2011 to 363 theaters, grossing $1,010,299 on opening weekend.

Synopsis

When Mac McDonald (Michael Joiner) loses his son in an accident, the ensuing 17 years of bitterness and pain erodes his love for his family and leaves him angry with almost everyone, including God. Mac's rage damages his career in the police department, and his household is as frightening as anything he encounters on the streets of Memphis. Money is tight, arguments with his wife are common, and his surviving son Blake is hanging with the wrong crowd and in danger of failing school.

Neil Klugman, jeune libertaire issu de la classe ouvrière, est d’une grande intelligence, mais ne fait aucun projet en opposition à l’establishment. Tout d’abord parce qu'il comprend qu’il devrait sacrifier son indépendance en travaillant dans l’entreprise familiale pour avoir un avenir conforme à celui que le père Patimkin ambitionne pour un gendre en puissance, à l’instar de Ron, le frère de Brendra, qui a dû abandonner ses rêves d'athlète de l'Université d'État de l'Ohio pour travailler avec son père. Un autre problème se présente quand Neil découvre que Brenda ne prend jamais la pilule, risquant de tomber enceinte et le contraignant au mariage. Suivant les injonctions de Neil, Brenda utilise alors un diaphragme, mais quand sa mère s’en aperçoit, elle somme sa fille de mettre fin à sa relation avec Neil. La soumission de Brenda aux exigences familiales provoque la rupture immédiate du couple.

In the story, Johnny Lingo (played by Makee K. Blaisdell) is a shrewd, but honest and well-liked Polynesian trader. It is actually told from the perspective of a Caucasian shopkeeper, Mr. Harris (played by Francis Urry). Lingo has come to one island to bargain for a wife. Mahana (played by Naomi Kahoilua), the young woman he desires, is considered by her neighbors and even her father to be of little value, sullen, ugly and undesirable. As the bargaining is about to begin, women of the island brag to each other of how many cows their husbands had given for each of them, and comment that Mahana's father will be lucky to see one cow as Lingo's offer. The counselor advises Mahana's father to ask for three cows so that finally, Moki (Mahana's father, played by Joseph Ah Quin) will at least get one cow.
