S. A. Rajkumar (Tamil: எஸ். ஏ. ராஜ்குமார்; born 23 August 1964) is an Indian film music director who hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has composed music for many south Indian films in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages. Light-hearted melodies are often considered his forte. He has won 2 Filmfare Best Music Director Award - Telugu for the films Raja & Pelli.

Vishwanathan (S. P. Balasubrahmanyam) is a multi-millionaire industrialist, who lives in a palatial house, with his only child, a son named Vijay (Vijay). Vijay has been born with a silver spoon and indulges in life's temptations and weaknesses to the extreme. Vishwanath would like his son to get married and be responsible. Vijay agrees to get married on condition a kind of a test drive! Vijay is the managing director of a large shipping corporation. He lives in a joint family with his father (Nambiar), two brothers (Radharavi and Dhamu), their wives and children and a spinster sister (Banupriya). He goes to Switzerland to stipulate a contract with Nizhalgal Ravi and Raghuvaran. There he meets Rambha, Ravi's sister. The two fall in love. Ravi approves of Vijay but when he expresses the condition that Vijay should stay with them after the marriage because India is not good, he refuses his offer and returns home. But later Raghuvaran and Rambha travel to India to mend fences. Raghuvaran learns that Banupriya had been dumped by Ravi for a better life and Vijay is just waiting for an opportunity to kill the man who destroyed his sister's life. He devises ways of preventing Ravi from attending the marriage but later he tells Banupriya the truth. Vijay overhears this and is angered, but Raghuvaran solves all the problems by deciding to marry Banupriya. Banupriya agrees for this too, making everyone happy. Finally Vijay, seeing his sister happy leaves Ravi alone. Eventually Rambha and Vijay get married.

Radha (Roja) is an illegitimate daughter who lives in her father's house as a maidservant with her step mother and father. The step mother's brother, Sanjay (Ajith Kumar) comes from Canada to visit Roja and her family. He said he likes her but needs at least 3 months to decide if she has the right qualities in a wife before he agrees to marry her. One day, two thieves Selvam (Karthik) and his friend steals a God statue from a temple and hide inside Radha's father's house while the elders are away. Radha finds them and lock them inside the house for 3 days. After 3 days, Radha gives Selvam some meaningful advice before he leaves. Selvam seems to have a liking of Radha and later he comes to know about Radha's story about her family and Sanjay. One day, her step mother throws her out of the house for accusing her of stealing her gold necklace and leaving a cigarette in a drawer. Selvam then finds a place for her in a hostel and makes many sacrifices in order to make her a famous singer.

Karmegham (Mammootty) returns to his village after serving in the army for long. He finds that the villagers still live the shackles of old customs and traditions. They work as slaves to a feudal landlord (Radha Ravi) who exploits them. Maheswari (Abhirami), a doctor, falls in love with Karmegham. Later through his mother (Manorama), Karmegham comes to know that Radha Ravi is his father and then it becomes a father-son conflict. Karmegham stood with the villagers and opposed his father and brother Shakthi. His sister, Mangai, loves a poor villager but Sakthi and his father are against her love. Sakthi kills her sister's lover, his sister goes mad and Karmegham calls the police. His brother escapes but the police shot him in an encounter. Karmegham gets married with Maheswari. His sister and mother die in a bomb blast planned by Karmegham's father. Karmegham kills his father to save at least his village.

Marumalarchi is about Mammooty is the centre figure of 38 patti the man of honour who has dedicated his life for the welfare of the village people. He is so respected that the people even erect his statue. In the crowded fair (sandhai) Mammooty pulls Devayani's hand to save her from an approaching cobra. Unfortunately nobody but the hero and his car driver seems to have noticed the cobra. Devayani makes a big fuss of the event by assuming Mammooty to be a rogue. The local big boys (Ranjith and Mansoor), who are also in similar status as Mammooty in their village, beat him up in public without taking notice of his defense. On the whole the movie portrays how mammootty over come on this problems.

Ashok (Rajasekhar) and Lakshmi (Meera Jasmine) are siblings, and their father, Sarvarayudu (Rajasekhar), who was a landlord of the village, and mother (Sujitha), die during their childhood. Ashok and Lakshmi turn inseparable. Lakshmi falls in love with a boy called Aakash (Aakash), but makes it clear that she would love or marry him only with the blessings and acceptance of her brother, which Ashok approves of. He also marries a girl named Nandini (Arthi Agarwal) on the same day. After their marriage, Aakash and Lakshmi lead a happy life along with Aakash's cousins and sisters-in-law. In a gap of seven years, Lakshmi has two daughters and a son. Then Nandini also becomes pregnant but suffers a miscarriage due to the intervention of one Kantham, who stays with her claiming to be her aunt. As Nandini's uterus was removed, Ashok turns childless and to please him Aakash and Lakshmi bring their children to cajole him. By the time Aakash returns to their house, his cousins cheat him and swindle the entire property. Aakash gets jailed in a cheque bounce case. Lakshmi and her children turn orphans. With the Kantham's advice, Nandini throws Lakshmi out of house and warns her not to try to meet her brother. With no way to save her husband and her family, Lakshmi commits suicide with her three children and on learning this Ashok also dies proving that they are inseparable even in death.
