Andy Hardy est un personnage de fiction interprété par l'acteur américain Mickey Rooney dans une série de films de la Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer entre 1937 et 1946, réalisés pour la plupart par George B. Seitz. Dans les titres français le personnage est renommé "André Hardy".Le producteur Louis B. Mayer s'est occupé personnellement de la carrière de Mickey Rooney. La famille Hardy dont fait partie Andy représentait pour lui la famille idéale qu'il n'a jamais eue, une famille où les parents s'aiment et où les enfants grandissent dans une atmosphère d'affection et de respect, prototype de la famille américaine conservatrice.
Mickey Rooney joue ce personnage dans pas moins de 16 films, dont 8 entre 1937 et 1939 qui ont rencontré le succès après du public américain. Les 15 films réalisés entre 1937 et 1946 ont rapporté 73 millions de dollars. Le personnage d'Andy a contribué à faire de Rooney une star à l'époque.
Judy Garland apparait dans trois des films de la série en tant que partenaire d'Andy Hardy. Louis B. Mayer a lancé plusieurs autres actrices dans les films de la série Andy Hardy : Lana Turner dans L'amour frappe André Hardy (Love Finds Andy Hardy), Kathryn Grayson dans Andy Hardy's Private Secretary ou encore Esther Williams dans Andy Hardy's Double Life.
Un dernier film est sorti en 1958 pour tenter de faire revivre le personnage après 12 ans d'interruption, mais sans succès.

Returning to his home town of Carvel after several years absence - and twelve years since the last Andy Hardy movie - Andrew Hardy (Mickey Rooney), now a high-flying west coast lawyer, reminiscences about his past (with flashbacks to his earlier filmed exploits alongside Judy Garland and Esther Williams et al.) and reconnects with his mother, aunt, sister (returning co-stars Fay Holden, Sara Haden and Cecilia Parker respectively) and nephew Jimmy (Johnny Weissmuller, Jr.) as he attempts to convince the skeptical small-townsfolk to let his company build a factory there.

Blonde Trouble picks up from the previous installment of the Andy Hardy saga with Andy on a train to begin his college career at Wainwright College. While on the train, he meets Kay Wilson (Bonita Granville), and learns that Wainright College has just become a coeducational institution. The Dean of Wainwright College (and soon to be Andy's faculty advisor), Dr. Standish (Herbert Marshall) is also on the train. Dr. Standish's identity is not revealed to Andy until later.

Preparing himself for college life, Andy Hardy (Mickey Rooney) promises himself to put an end to his flirting ways and attempts to organize his finances by selling his old car.
