Sthithi (English: Plight) is a 2002 Malayalam feature film written and directed by R. Sarath. The film tells the tale of a couple employed in the Secretariat. It stars Unni Menon, Nandini Goswal, Master Achuth, Master Anand and Mallika Sukumaran. It is playback singer Unni Menon's debut film as an actor. He also composed a couple of songs for the film. Bengali actress and Odissi dancer, Nandini Goswal plays the female lead.

Synopsis

Vivek and Vani who are Secretariat employees. They live in a modest house on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram together with their two children. Their lives change when under threat of job losses, the trade unions call for strike action whilst at the same time their landlord asks them to leave.

It is a hundred years since Charlie Chaplin, artist nonpareil, appeared on the silver screen mesmerising audiences across the globe. His signature moustache and derby that have left their indelible imprint on the annals of film history. Buddhanum Chaplinum Chirikkunnu is a film that pays homage to Chaplin at the centennial commemoration of his acting career. The film portrays an Indian comedian, Indragupthan, who idolises Chaplin. He believes his life resembles Chaplin's and nurtures the desire to depict his hero on the big screen. However, he rules out a blind imitation of the late legend. The narrative revolves around his disintegrating family life and his quest for true love. The dilemma that ensues is the crux of the story. In the struggle to discover himself Indragupthan is entrapped in a world of make belief. The film is a unique marriage of the serious and the comic - one complementing the other. Indragupthan realises finally that the wheel of life has left him stranded in the twilight zone between real and unreal.

Parudeesa tells the story of a Catholic parish in a hillside village in Kerala. Set in two milieus – Kerala of the sixties and seventies and that of the eighties and nineties – the film unfolds through the conflict of ideals between Father Aanjalithanam (Sreenivasan), an orthodox priest, who is the last word in the parish, and a firebrand verger named Deacon Jose (Thampy Antony), who believes that Christ was the original revolutionary. Both of them believe that their way to God is the true path, the only path.

The movie begins with the arrival of Seelabathi (Kavya Madhavan) and her mother Sumangala (Urmila Unni) to Kerala from Bengal. Though Sumangala returns to Bengal, Seelabathi stays behind because she gets a temporary job as a computer teacher in a school, for a few months. She stays with her grandparents. Her grandfather (Nedumbram Gopi) is a farmer who loves farming more than perhaps anything else. And in school, she soon gets adapted to things and becomes friendly with her students. Sheelabathi also meets a young doctor Jeevan ( Narain), with whom she becomes very friendly. In the village there are people who come to dig huge bore-wells and consequently there is much of water scarcity. And young students disappear mysteriously from the school and end up being sexually exploited. Their parents accuse that it is due to the new teacher’s computer courses that such incidents were happening in the village. Then the story continues telling how Sheelabathi overcomes to all problems.

Sidharth (Indrajith) is the creative head of a prominent advertising agency. He has just been transferred to Kochi from Bangalore. Veena is Siddhu's girlfriend and runs a contemporary dance troupe. Icha (Nivin Pauly) is Veena's friend and a waiter in an upmarket coffee shop. When they fail to find a suitable place for Siddhu to stay, Veena suggests that he share Icha's place until he finds his own accommodation. Siddhu instantly agrees, but Icha agrees reluctantly.
