This film features Vijay and Suvalakshmi in the lead roles while Manthra, Raghuvaran, Karan and Bindu Panicker all play other supporting roles. The film opened to big positive reviews from critics and did well at the box office. The Movie was declared as an All Time Blockbuster by completing 175 days at the Boxoffice. The movie was remade into Telugu as Suswagatham (1998) starring Pawan Kalyan and Devayani.
Synopsis
Ganesh (Vijay) is a college graduate who lives with his father, Chadrasekhar (Raghuvaran), who is a doctor. Ganesh's father is easy going and pampers his son with whatever he wants. Sandhya (Suvalakshmi) is a daughter of a very strict police officer Vasudevan (Rajan P. Dev), who is always suspicious that his daughter would have a love affair. Sandhya makes up her mind that she would never fall in love and disappoint her father and her ambition is to get a gold medal in her college degree.Acteurs

Aravind (Nagarjuna Akkineni), Chandru (Sumanth) and Krishna Murthy (Sudhakar) are childhood, friends. Chandru and Krishna Murthy are orphans, who are generously brought up by the parents of Aravind. By the time they reach their 20's, Aravind's sister Amrita (Pratyusha) falls in love with Chandru. Chandru hesitates to love her, as she is the sister of his close friend. Chandru seeks the help of Krishna Murthy to avoid Amrita. After the entire episode, Aravind and Chandru go to Hyderabad to work with Krishna Murthy. When this trio is assigned to renovate an old palatial house, Aravind encounters Padmini (Bhoomika Chawla). A mischief by the jealous cousin of Padmini results in Aravind falling for Padmini. When Padmini is about to get engaged to another guy, Chandru announces that Padmini cheated Aravind after loving him. Aravind and Padmini realize that Padmini's jealous cousin's responsible for ruining everything. Aravind's jealous cousin lies to Chandu that Aravind intentionally killed Chandu's brother. Aravind kicks his evil cousin out of the house. Chandu tries to save Aravind, but Aravind's hand is too slippery and Aravind falls off the mountain. Although Chandu tried to save Aravind, Chandu blames himself. Chandu realizes that his brother was accidentally killed by Aravind. Few years later, Chandu reunites with Aravind's family.

Vallarasu (Vijayakanth) is the deputy commissioner of police and a very honest Police Officer who has arrested Wasim Khan a terrorist from Pakistan. He is married and has wife Anjali (Devayani) and 2 children. Vallarasu kills his senior Police officer (Raguvaran) who is his father in law on knowing he is hand-in-glove with terrorists and Anti-National elements. Anjali leaves Vallarasu after she comes to know he had killed her father. Kandasamy in retaliation attacks Sriman and Karan who both die. In the climax, Anjali unites with Vallarasu after knowing the truth and he kills Kandasamy and Wasim Khan.

The story starts off with Raghu (Raghuvaran), a passport issuing officer and his wife Shanthi Krishna. Raghu being a honest guy tells Shanthi Krishna that he cheated on her with a co-worker when he was in Goa. She immediately leaves for her mother's house. Raghu being a transformed gentleman tries to stop her by apologizing, but in vain. Raghu's brother Vijay being a good supportive brother and Shanthi's brother Surya being a non-emotive but supporting brother meet in a cinema theatre. Vijay being a righteous brother blames Shanthi to be the cause of the problem and Surya blames Raghu for the same. They keep on fighting at every chance.Meanwhile both the heroes Vijay and Surya find their own girlfriends and fall in love. One day Raghu finds a bundle of cash on his table and meets the person (Karan) who kept the money there. Raghu finds out that Karan is an MLA, wanted by the police. Karan wants to leave the country to escape from the police and he needs a fake passport for flee the country otherwise police will catch him, since his passport is confiscated by the police; He tells Raghu to get one for him, but Raghu being a sincere officer disagrees and calls the police instead. The MLA gets angry and promises to avenge Raghu. Meanwhile, Raghu and Shanthi Krishna apply for a divorce.
