Military Raaj is an action flick, where Mithun plays the lead role. Mithun is an army major who fights to avoid crimes when there are crime situations, for which is often blamed by police stating that army has no power to fight crimes and it is a duty of police. Politicians who backing up crimes transfer him to a training camp with undisciplined cadets, as the head of the camp. There he trains the cadet to become honest soldiers. In a terrible situation in which police could not keep the peace and crimes have overwhelmed the police, government has no other option other than confining the police to barracks and calling the army to take over the security of the country i.e. forming a Military Raaj (Military controlled state).

Raja is a minor league crook who sells railway tickets on the black market at Amirpur Station. Tired of his job he looks for new ways to make a quick buck. Naive and easily influenced Ajay Prasad has been married for several years, and lives in remote India with his wife and a son. The family receive an invitation to attend a wedding in Bombay. As Mrs. Prasad and their son are unable to attend, Ajay is asked to attend on his own, which he agrees to do so. Upon arrival in Bombay, he is met at the airport by Ravindranath, who welcomes him, and drives him to his apartment, located in a good upper class locality. Ajay finds out that his next door neighbor is a single woman, who acts in commercials and short advertisements. Ajay decides to indulge in an affair with her, with hilarious results.

Aarti (Karisma Kapoor), dont la mère est morte, vit avec son père bien-aimé (Suresh Oberoi) et son antipathique belle-mère Shalini (Archana Puran Singh) qui complote avec son frère pour récupérer l'héritage familial. Ils habitent une somptueuse maison à Bombay, sont richissimes, occidentalisés et peu regardants sur les « vraies » valeurs. Un univers de faste et d'abondance où seul le paraître et les mondanités sont de mise. Aarti désire un jour se rendre à Palankhet, le village où se sont connus ses parents... Elle s'y rend accompagnée de ses deux employées de maison (pour ne pas dire servantes)... vraiment particulières ! Un jeune chauffeur de taxi bourru, au cœur tendre, indépendant et accessoirement excellent chanteur, Raja Hindustani (Aamir Khan), les accompagne. Il s'est ainsi nommé parce qu'il est son propre maître, Raja, et Hindustani-Indien, car il ne se revendique d'aucune ethnie particulière (hindoue, musulmane, etc.). Raja est aussi un grand timide à cheval sur les principes... Le voyage dure un jour et il est convenu de faire un arrêt de nuit dans un hôtel. Mais les deux « drôles de dames » qui les accompagnent ont oublié de valider leur réservation, et Raja propose gentiment de les héberger.

Lalchand Dogra lives in a palatial house with his wife, Anjana, and three sons, Sunny, Raj, and Jay. Due to circumstances beyond their control, all get separated, with Lalchand himself ending up serving time in prison for several years. Years later, Lalchand is released from jail and sets out to find his family and try to put the rest of his life together. India is plagued with kidnappings of young children from wealthy backgrounds with their abductors demanding huge ransoms or brutally killing their victims. After the retirement of Police Commissioner Hamza Sheikh, DSP Ali Haider Jaffri takes over. Shortly after this, he displays his abilities when he successfully apprehends a gang of bank robbers - albeit by jeopardizing the life of a bank customer. Then the son of the Continental Bank Chairman, Srivastav, is abducted and held for ransom. Ali comes to know about this, intervenes, but is unable to save the child, resulting in considerable criticism of mishandling this incident. Then Ali's very own world is turned upside down when his daughter, Shagufta, who is to marry Naseerudin, the son of the Home Minister, Syed Noorudin Ahmed, is abducted along with Naseerudin.
