It is a story of a little adivasi boy's obsession with becoming Rama, set against the backdrop of corrupt land mining activities threatening to destroy his village and the civil strife it leads to. The film stars Nandita Das, Seema Biswas, Salim Kumar and Raju Singh (as Oonga).
Oonga had its world premiere at the New York Indian Film Festival on 3 May 2013; and was screened in the 'India Gold' section at the 15th Mumbai Film Festival; the 13th River to River Florence Indian film festival 2013 and the Indian film festival at Melbourne 2014. Oonga is also a part of the international competition at the International Film Festival of Kerala 2014
Synopsis
Little adivasi Oonga misses his village school trip to see the ‘Ramayana’. Upset about being the only kid in his tribal village Pottacheru who has not yet seen the mythical warrior-king ‘Rama’, Oonga runs away, embarking on a long adventurous journey to the big city of Lohabad.Acteurs

Dibyanath Chatterji, his bank-employed wife, Sujata, and youngest son, Brati, live an affluent existence in Calcutta, West Bengal, India, circa early 1970s. Sujata is a quiet, devout Hindu, religious, and compassionate woman, and Brati has finished his school and is now attending college. His parents are proud of him, and keep track of his progress. Then their world is shattered during the early hours, when they are informed by the police that Brati has been killed. Dibyanath and Sujata go to identify Brati's body, mourn, lament inconsolably. They know now that their lives will never be the same again - for by the police they will be called the mother and father of corpse No. 1084. Sujata struggles to understand Brati's passing, meets his friends one by one, comes to know that Brati had a girlfriend, Nandini Mitra, and that's when she finds out that Brati was part of a rebel group often referred to as "Naxalbari", a militant leftist group. As she delves deeper and deeper into Brati's former life, she begins to understand her son's struggle, and decides to continue to further this. What Sujata does not know is her and Dibyanath's lives are in danger, and they well turn up dead and end up as numbered corpses in a police morgue.

Jayaraman (Jayasurya) is popularly known as Kunjaliyan (Young Brother-in-law) in Gopalapuram, a village in the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border. He is the younger brother of three sisters. The film is introduced when an old lady's (Nandita Das) son and daughter in law comes to stay on her house where she is solitary. Every often her son and her daughter in law notice that she goes to the beach prays in the garden every night. When they ask her why she is going to the beach she says that she is waiting for her husband to come. The son gets angry and says that you have been waiting for 25 years, he is not going to come. Whilst the mum goes to the beach the couple dig where she is praying and find a skeleton. They report to the police and the case is handled by Inspector Agnes (Varsha Ashwathi) who begins interrogating the old lady. The old lady tells her past.

Parthasarathy (Jayaram, popularly called Parthan, lives in Krishnapuram village. Parthan is constantly clashing with his uncle Falgunan Thampy (Jagathy Sreekumar), who is the Panchayath President.
