Amber (The Sky) also called Ambar, is a 1952 Hindi costume action romance thriller film directed by Jayant Desai. The story was by Dwarka Khosla and Bachoobhai Shukla, with dialogues by Munshi Sagar Hussain and Arjun Dev Rashk. The screenplay was credited to Uma Devi. The film was produced by Seth Jagat Narain for his banner, Jagat Pictures, with music by Ghulam Mohammed.
The actress Tanuja was credited as Baby Tanuja and played the role of a young Nargis. The film starred Raj Kapoor, Nargis, Agha, Bipin Gupta, Vyas, Cuckoo, Helen and Samson.

The story involves intrigue in the palace, a king blamed for a murder and a daughter avenging her father's death. Nargis plays Amber, out for revenge, while Raj Kapoor plays the man sent to save the king.

Synopsis

Amber (Baby Tanuja), a young orphaned tribal girl, stays with her maternal grandfather who is the Chief. She learns that her father was a prince who had married her mother but was killed. The cause of the murder was unknown and the killers were never caught. Her mother had committed suicide soon after. The grandfather sends her to the palace to stay with her paternal grandfather, the King (Bipin Gupta). The King comes to love Amber and she grows up (Nargis) surrounded by love and luxury. However, she is let known through palace intrigue that her grandfather, the King, had got her father killed. She decides to avenge her father's death by killing her grandfather. Ambar, on one of her outings meets Raj (Raj Kapoor), and the two fall in love. Raj turns out to be a bandit, but his father is a loyal server to the king. Raj's father fears that someone is going to harm the king so he sends Raj to the palace. Raj arrives there pretending to be a teacher.

Judge Raghunath is a wealthy district judge who convicts Jagga, a man whose father was a criminal, of rape on little evidence. The judge believes that "good people are born to good people, and criminals are born to criminals." Jagga later escapes and kidnaps the judge's wife Leela for revenge. When he finds out that she has just become pregnant, he releases her after four days and plans a different kind of revenge. The judge suspects that Leela was unfaithful to him with Jagga, and throws her out of the house.

Raj Raibahadur (Raj Kapoor) lives a wealthy lifestyle with his father, a widowed businessman. One day Raj is sent to work at the countryside Saraswati Dam. His father one day visits him and tells him how his deceased mother wished that he be married to Chandra (played by Vijayalaxmi), the daughter of his rich family friend. He also flirts with Chandra to make Neelu believe that he does not love her. Chandra decides to end the suffering of her sister, who is sobbing for her love-loss. Upon learning the truth, Neelu accepts Raj as he is. Miraculously, Raj also turns well and both lead for a happy life.

Kewal (Raj Kapoor) reluctantly accepts his father (Kamal Kapoor)'s demands to continue the family tradition by studying law and become a successful lawyer just like him. Chiranjeev (Raj Kapoor) lives a wealthy lifestyle along with his father, Kashiram (Raj Mehra), and three siblings: two sisters, one of whom is dumb, and a younger brother. On his way home he has an accident, and though he does survive after being treated by tribal people, he returns to the Ashram several days later and is informed that Sharada is now married to a wealthy and much older man. Heart-broken and devastated, Chiranjeev returns home only to get another shock: the male Sharada has married is none other than his very own father. Depressed and deeply frustrated, he takes to alcohol in a big way. Sharada talks him out of this, he repents and on her insistence, marries Chanchal (Shyama), who come from a reputed family background. Things then get complicated when Chanchal finds that her husband and his stepmother had been in love before and may not have got over their feelings for each other.
