Synopsis
After the execution of Kattabomman in 17 October 1799 at Kayattar, Chinna Marudhu gave asylum to Kattabomman's brother Oomadurai (dumb brother). But, the British took this reason to invade and attacked Sivaganga in 1801 with a powerful army. The Maruthu Pandiyars and their allies were quite successful and captured three districts from the British. British considered it as a serious threat to their future in India that they rushed additional troops from Britain to put down the Maruthu Pandiyars' rebellion.Acteurs

Ratnapuri is a small kingdom besieged by manifold troubles. The King’s only daughter Ratna (B. Saroja Devi) is kidnapped and the King dies without naming any successors. Marthandan (MGR), a member of the royal family is chosen by the majority of the imperial council, including the ministers and the commander-in-chief, to be the new ruler. However, the Rajaguru (P. S. Veerappa) has a different idea. Unknown to anyone, he has the princess Ratna in his custody in an island. Ratna has grown up completely unaware of her ancestry. Meanwhile, the Rajaguru plans to do get rid of Marthandan and put up his stooge Pingalan (M. N. Nambiar) as the King. He then plans to marry Ratna himself, get rid of Pingalan, and declare himself the ruler. Meanwhile, Veerabagu (K. R. Ramsingh), the loyal bodyguard of the erstwhile King, and his gang of committed people, including his son Bhoopathi and daughter Madana (P. Bhanumathi) are furious at an outsider ascending the throne. Elsewhere in the kingdom, people are far from happy. Shortage of food and unemployment are rampant all around.

Prince Udayasuriyan (M.G.R) wins all tough competition to marry Princess Kalamani (Anjali Devi). Durga (S. Varalaxmi) and Bhairavan (P.S. Veerappa) plot to ruin their lives. Durga plans to take the queen place in order to live with Udayasuriyan while Bhairavan abduct Kalamani from the palace. Veerapandiya Kattabomman (Sivaji Ganesan), the king of Panchalankurichi, is a brave fighter and a devotee of his family deity, Lord Murugan of Tiruchendur. On receiving the news of a robbery in his territory, Kattabomman and his retinue set out incognito to capture the robbers. When the robbers are captured, they confess that they had been hired by the British to create unrest in Kattabomman's domain. They also tell him that the British had enticed the neighbouring chieftain, Ettappan (V. K. Ramasamy), to help them in their endeavour to annex Panchalankurichi. Ettappan was promised that an additional two villages would be added to his land by the British, as a price for his betrayal. Ettappan, in disguise, goes to Kattabomman's court and tries to frighten him by extolling the omnipotence of the British. Kattabomman is indignant and tears off Ettappan's fake beard, but spares him because he had come to his court as an ambassador.

The film narrates the tale of a Madras city-based businessman (R. Balasubramaniam) in whose printing press T. R. Ramachandran works as an office boy. The story is about the critical role of Timmarusu (Gummadi) played during the reign of Sri Krishnadevaraya (NTR). The story begins with the pattabhishekam of Sri Krishnadevaraya. Before the function, he participates in the dance and music function of Chinna Devi (Vijayalaxmi). They get married and becomes his first queen. After coronation, Timmarusu arranges the marriage with Tirumala Devi (S. Varalaxmi) daughter of Srirangapatnam kingdom. Timmarusu slaps him on the cheek to remind him about the kickbacks while seating on the crown. He plans to attack Gajapathis of Kalinga kingdom lonely. Knowing about this Timmarusu reaches Kalinga and protects him. Pratraparudra Gajapathi (Mukkamala) wanted to kill him with the help of his son Veerabhadra Gajapathi (Prabhakar Reddy). However his daughter Annapurna Devi (Devika) openly opposes it and loves him. In a political dialogue, Prataparudra agrees to marry his daughter to Krishnadevaraya. After the marriage, he plans to kills him. With the help of Timmarulu he comes out of danger. They reach the Hampi with Rani Annapurna Devi along with Hamvira (Lingamurthy). Annapurna gives birth to Tirumala Raya. Hamvira creates differences between Krishnadevaraya and Timmarusu and kills Tirumala Raya. He convinces Rayalu that Timmarusu is the culprit. The court on the instructions from Rayalu orders to make him blind and imprison him. Before Rayalu Knows the fact, the punishment is implemented. However Timmarusu pardons him and their relationship continued.
