Major Chandrakanth is a 1993 Telugu patriotic-drama film directed by K. Raghavendra Rao. N. T. Rama Rao (NTR) and Mohan Babu play the lead roles, while Sharada, Ramya Krishna, Nagma, Amrish Puri, Srihari, Manoj Manchu and Brahmanandam play other important roles. It was produced by Mohan Babu under his Sri Lakshmi Prasanna Pictures banner. The music was scored by M. M. Keeravani, story-dialogues written by the Paruchuri brothers, lyrics composed by Jaladi-Gurucharan-Rasaraju, cinematography by Ajay Vincent and art by Bhaskara Raju. The film was released on 23 April 1993. The film was declared as a blockbuster, and later went on to celebrate its silver jubilee. This film is perhaps a last glimpse in Sri N. T. Rama Rao's long film career.

Synopsis

N.T.R. plays the titular role of Major Chandrakanth, a sincere military soldier who always fights for justice. He retires from the military and returns home to his family in Hyderabad. His son Shivaji (Mohan Babu) is a smuggler who works for MP Gnaeswar Rao (Amrish Puri). Major Chandrakanth, not knowing he is a smuggler, wishes to see his son and grandchildren become sincere soldiers like him. He gets into many clashes with Gnaeswar.

Prithvi, Vikram and Dattatreya (Chiranjeevi in a triple role) are the sons of Ranganath and Srividya living in a village. Ranganath goes against Sarath Saxena in an incident and is killed by him. Ramu (Venkatesh) leads a carefree life, living along with his widowed mother in a village. He was in love with Usha (Rambha), daughter of Dharmaiah (Gollapudi Maruti Rao), village president. Ramu (NTR) is a lorry driver who personally does not tolerate injustice anywhere. With his hard work, he soon becomes a lorry owner. He has a blind sister Meena (Roja Ramani) to whom he is very affectionate. A police inspector by the name of Raja Reddy (Sridhar), admiring Ramu's sincerity and truthfulness, comes forward to marry the blind girl. Meanwhile, Chukkamma (Jayasudha), who runs a small hotel on the highway, and Ramu fall in love with each other. Ramu renders help to one of Chukkamma’s relatives, another lorry driver named Vasu (Kaikala Satyanarayana). They become good friends. Kamal Babu (Mohan Babu) soon enters the scene, implicates Ramu in a smuggling case and succeeds in sending him to jail. How Ramu manages to prove his innocence and brings the story to its logical, happy end constitutes the rest of the narrative.
