Marmayogi (English: The Mysterious Sage) is a 1951 Indian Tamil fantasy film directed by K. Ramnoth and produced by M. Somasundaram under his banner Jupiter Studios. A film adaptation of the novel Vengeance by Marie Corelli and William Shakespeare's novel Macbeth, the film was shot simultaneously in Hindi as Ek Tha Raja. The film features M. G. Ramachandran, Madhuri Devi and Anjali Devi in the lead roles with Pandari Bai, M. N. Nambiar and S. V. Sahasranamam playing supporting roles.
Development of the film began after the success of Rajakumari (1947), Ramachandran approached writer A. S. A. Sami to write a script which revolves around him. Samy wrote a script inspired from Vengeance by Marie Corelli and Shakespeare's novel Macbeth and Robinhood. S. M. Subbaiah Naidu and C. R. Subbaraman composed all the songs in the soundtrack album. Masthan and Subbarao handled the film's cinematography. The film was edited by M. A. Thirumugam.
The film was released on 2 February 1951 with reel length of 4,804 metres (15,761 ft). The film became commercial success at box office and established Ramachandran's image as a star. It was the first Tamil film to receive an "A" (Adults Only) certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification.
Synopsis
A King's (Serukalathur Sama) mistress (Anjali Devi) usurps his power and casts him adrift in a river. The two princes of the kingdom (Sahasranamam and MGR) are denied their birthright. The deposed king wanders the country in the guise of a sage. The younger prince (Ramachandran) leads a popular rebellion against the usurper-queen and restores the kingdom to his father.Acteurs

Twins Sekhar and Anand (Master Sekhar) along with Mangalam (Pandari Bai), their mother witness their father (S. V. Ramadoss) being killed by escaped prisoner Nagappan (M. N. Raja (M.G.R), a champion jockey leads a very happy and disciplined life. Raja meets Jeeva (Saroja Devi), the only daughter of a very rich businessman, Bhupathi, and both fall head over heels in love with each other. Raja is an orphan. Years later, he learns of his mother and the injustice meted out to her in life. Raja vows to find his father and take revenge. Raja is overjoyed to meet his mother who he believed was dead, but his happiness is short lived, when his mother reveals that he is the son of Bhupathi.

Sundaram (M. G. Ramachandran) is an innocent band musician who lives with his physically challenged sister Sita (Sharada) in a village. He needs more money for his sister's marriage and he sets off to Madras to earn. On the other hand Madras city Police department is shocked by series of diamond thefts. But Inspector Mohan (M. N. Nambiar) suspects the thief to be Ranjith Kumar (M. G. Ramachandran) who is actually a wealthy diamond businessman on the accounts that whenever a theft occurs he is present there. But he has no evidence and searches for that. He creates a plan with Leela (Manjula) to attract Ranjith to know his secret plans. Sundaram arrives the city and goes to an party hall. Ranjith who arrives the party surprised to see Sunadaram as he looks identical as him. He immediately plots for a plan. He takes Sundaram to his place and reveals himself. He convinces Sundaram to act like Ranjith in front of the society as he is a heart patient and require a treatment. Until his return from treatment Sundaram has to make believe everybody that he is Ranjith. Actually he makes him as Ranjith so that he can continue with his diamond smuggling meanwhile there will not be any evidence as Sundaram is going to be Ranjith everywhere. But he did not reveal the reason to him. He also promises that he would give money for his sister's marriage. Innocent Sundaram believes him and agrees to the plan.
