Latha (born Nalini), also known as M.G.R. Latha, Latha Sethupathi, is a top Indian actress, who played leading roles in south Indian films during the 1970s and early 1980s. She is also known for her roles in various megaserials in Tamil and Telugu language and continues to be popular in the industry.

Parvathiamma(Latha) is the domineering mother of three sons Kandha(Prabhu), Kadamba(S.V.Sekhar) and Kathirvela(Vivek), who do her every bidding. They move around in an auto and work at their own hotel. Parvatiamma has disavowed her only daughter ever since she ran away with a barber Vedivelan(Vadivelu). Now the daughter's wish is to have her brothers present at the function of her son. Vadivelan takes this task upon himself and enters the household. His first job is to fix up the marriages of the sons with Rupini(Roja), Ragini(Sarala) and Rohini(Nirosha). Parvatiamma counterattacks by first ejecting him from the house and then separating her sons from their wives. Whether the couples reunite and Vedivelan succeeds or not forms the rest of the story.

Subramani (Vignesh), Vellaisamy (Vadivelu), Arumugam (Charle) and Ponrasu (Chinni Jayanth) are four friends from poor family, they are graduate but they cannot find a job. Their fathers feel that they are good-for-nothing and decide to corrupt the politician Anja Nenjam (Thyagu) to find them a decent job. Anja Nenjam is linked to Pannaiyar (Malaysia Vasudevan), a ruthless landlord, who exploited the villagers. Pannaiyar orders him to flee with their money otherwise nobody will respect him. Pandian (Pandiarajan), a sale representative, gets married with Rajeswari (Ranjitha). Pandian's mother Vadivu (Vadivukkarasi) is a miser while his father Velmurugan (Manivannan) is a good man and they also have three daughters. Vadivu takes advantage of Rajeswari's salary and dowry. For the marriage of her first daughter Malini (Latha), Vadivu uses Rajeswari's jewels. Then, the groom (Thyagu) losses his job, so Pandian and Rajeswari decide to abortion for the benefit of the family. In the meantime, Malini becomes pregnant. Rajeswari resigns her job whereas Vadivu expected a lot on Rajeswari's salary. One day, Vadivu immolates Rajeswari but Velmurugan saves her at time. Rajeswari leaves Pandian's house and begins to look for a job. Despite the fact that she looks for job everywhere, she didn't find. So she becomes a dressmaker and after that, she becomes the entrepreneur of a clothes factory. Meanwhile, Pandian's family are crippled with debts. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

Kamal Haasan along with his group of friends: Vijayakumar, Srikanth, Jaiganesh, Ravichandran go to a forest. Kamal is a researcher who studies about the behaviour of snakes (Ichadhari), a kind of snake which takes humanoid form. One of his friend kills the beloved of the serpent, Sripriya, despite the intervention of Kamal. Initially all the other friends ignore Kamal without knowing the seriousness. They all leave the village and the female serpent (Sripriya) vows to avenge for the death of her beloved. She kills all the five friends of Kamal in disguise at some instance and at the end she disguises as latha (Kamal's love interest) to in order to kill him. In the end Sripriya is killed and Kamal reunites with Latha and the child of Srikanth.
