Arun meets Seema by accident and both are attracted to each other. But Seema has a questionable background, which do create doubts in the minds of Arun and his mother. Arun is then involved in an accident, and everyone believes he is dead. Seema is devastated, and takes to alcohol, singing and dancing in a bar, and is raped by a man. Then Arun returns, and Seema is overjoyed to see him, but is hesitant to tell him about what had occurred. Arun takes Seema to his home, and introduces them to his family, namely his mom, his sister, Priti, and his brother-in-law, Prem. Maanav is an orphan who was brought up by a Catholic Priest, Father Francis. After completing his M.A. he returns home to Taran Devi and finds out that his mentor is dead. He re-locates to Bombay by train, and a man named Gopichand Sharma attempts to steal his luggage, but Maanav chases him and retrieves it. Both men become friends, despite of their differences - Maanav wants to lead an honest life, and Gopichand, who is estranged from his wife, a nurse, Kalyani, and son, Munna, is an alcoholic and thief. Gopichand eventually changes his lifestyle, decides to be honest, patches up with his family, but ends up antagonizing his crime boss, Monto Sardar, who chops off his right hand. Maanav gets him a job with Hercules Milk Foods. Maanav meets with and falls in love with Kaajal Gupta, who is the daughter of the owner of Hercules Milk Foods, much to the chagrin of her dad who wants her to get married to Shyamal. Then one day Maanav disappears from Gopichand and Kaajal's lives. He re-locates to Simla and it is here that he learns that things have spiraled out of control as Gopichand has been arrested for marketing contaminated milk powder resulting in the deaths of hundreds of children. Maanav decides to return to Bombay and attempts to make sense why Gopichand committed this crime.

In the era of Guru Ram Das, one cannot leave out Rajni, youngest daughter of Rai Duni Chand, revenue collector (kardar) of Patti. Reporter Jitendra (Dharmendra) exposes dangerous working conditions in a mine owned by one of his employer's crooked creditors. He loses his job. Vijay (Guru Dutt), un poète, ne parvient pas à vivre de ses vers. On lui conseille d’écrire des poèmes d’amour, d’abandonner les réflexions pessimistes sur la nature humaine qui sont son thème de prédilection. Sa famille ne le soutient pas : ses frères vendent ses manuscrits à une usine de pâte à papier et le chassent de la maison. Vijay tente de racheter ses poèmes, mais le gérant de l’usine lui apprend qu’une femme en a fait l’acquisition. La nuit, alors que Vijay dort sur un banc public, il entend une femme, Gulabo (Waheeda Rehman) chanter un de ses textes. Il la suit, jusqu’à la maison close où elle officie. Lorsqu’elle s’aperçoit que Vijay est sans le sou, elle le chasse. En lisant un papier tombé de la poche du poète, elle réalise qu’il est l’auteur des poèmes qu’elle a achetés.

Babla (Master Raju) is a kid who lives in a village with his mother (Dina Pathak). His mother sends him to his sister's (Vidya Sinha) place (in a city) so that he can go to a good school. Initially, Babla likes both school as well as his sister's home very much and becomes a good friend with Pappu (Master Tito), his classmate. They roam around in streets, watch street magic shows and wish they could do such tricks, look inquisitively at how sweets are made, make fun of teacher, etc. They enjoy all these things thoroughly. But Babla gets reminded of the harsh reality of life when his sister and brother-in-law start scolding him for his disinterest in studies and complaints from the school regarding his so-called irresponsible behavior (like making fun of teachers, singing in the classroom, etc.). He gets to realize that nobody understands kids, their innocence, their view of life and he will have to grow up to enjoy life fully.
