Synopsis
A newly wed couple Romita (Rituparna Sengupta) and Palash (Abhishek Chatterjee) were attacked on the open road. The goons molested Romita, but nobody came forward to help. However, one lone schoolteacher, Jhinuk (Indrani Halder), rushed to the spot to help. She was later hailed a heroine by the press. Sagar Mukherjee(Prosenjit) is a tea taster in profession. He lives beside the house of Shipra(Rituparna Sengupta), his neighbour. Prasad Halder is the boss of Sagar’s company and her also lives beside them. Sagar and Shipra fall in love and go for registrary marriage without informing Shipra’s parents. Prasad(Robi Ghosh) helps them. Shipra starts living with Sagar. Shipra’s father does not accept this relationship. Shipra becomes pregnant. She has to be admitted in a hospital. There she meets with Krishna(Satabdi Roy) who is also pregnant. Shipra and Krishna give birth to girls on the same day, but suddenly fire catches in the hospital,and the girls are exchanged. Only the doctor and the nurse knows this. Shipra and Sagar’s daughter Maya(Srabanti Chatterjee), Nirmal and Krishna’s daughter Trishna grows up. One day Shipra dies due to cardiac failure. So, taking Maya, Sagar shifts to a tea-garden. There he meets Nirmal and Krishna with their son Kushal(Soham Chakraborty) and daughter Trishna. One day it is revealed that Trishna has a heart problem. The nurse accidentally comes to know about the Krishna’s present status in the city and her girl’s problem. In a major operation Trishna dies. The nurse reveals the incident of exchange of the babies to Krishna. Krishna and Nirmal came to know about Maya’s origin, but Sagar does not want to handover Maya to them. By law, Nirmal and Krishna get the charge of Maya. But Maya doesnot want to live with them. Sagar(Prosenjit) breaks down. Kushal does not want to recognise Maya as his sister. Maya runs away with Kushal and unites with her father sagar. Krishna and Nirmal accept it.

Au Bengale au XIXe siècle. Bhubaneshwar Chaudhary est un zamindar (propriétaire terrien) riche et autoritaire. Désireux d'occuper la première place, tant aux yeux de ses voisins que du colon britannique, il veut faire réaliser une sculpture de la déesse Durga ayant les traits de la reine Victoria. Aucun bengali n'acceptant cette commande, il engage un sculpteur bihari, Brij Bhushan. D'autre part, il souhaite désespérément avoir un héritier et, rendant son épouse responsable de cet échec, il se marie avec une jeune femme, Jashomati, qu'il harcèle sexuellement sans plus de résultat. Cette dernière, traumatisée par les assauts répétés de son mari et par la compétition qui s'installe entre les deux épouses, s'attache de plus en plus à Brij Bhushan.

Sarojini (Aparna Sen) is a well-known danseuse, whose immense dedication to her art permeates every aspect of her life. While honor and acclaim make way into her professional life she is less successful on the domestic front. Her growing popularity leads to her husband Manish's (Boddhiswatta Majumdar) gradual resentment towards her and ultimately a rift between the couple. Manish takes over the upbringing of their only daughter, Aditi, as Sarojini remains busy with her artistic commitments. Sarojini seems to find a replacement for the void in her marital life through dancing, however she is unsure if her blossoming career and success is really bringing her happiness. The sudden demise of Manish forces Sarojini to put her daughter in a hostel. The glittering memory of her father and her mother's inability of give her proper time results in Aditi's bitterness towards her mother.

The film is a quiet drama about a lonely, sad, unfortunate middle-aged woman. Banalata (Kiron Kher) has lived a solitary existence since her husband-to-be died the night before their wedding from a snake bite. Never having quite gotten over the tragedy, she rarely ventures out and is clearly very lonely. This changes when she agrees to allow a film production unit to shoot in a wing in her sprawling estate. Suddenly her house is filled with movie stars and glamorous people, including the beautiful actress Sudeshna (Rupa Ganguly) and charming director Deepankar (Chiranjeet Chakraborty). Though she knows that not only is Deepankar married but that his former lover Sudeshna still holds a torch for him, the lonely widow finds herself drawn to the director. He is exactly the sort of worldly character whom she has always longed to meet. The rakish man flirts back and even persuades Banalata to appear in a bit part in the movie. Yet once the film crew decamps, things at the estate return to the same grinding tedium as before, though the woman feels her isolation all the more acutely. The letters that Banalata writes to Deepankar go unanswered, and her bit part in the movie ends up on the cutting-room floor.

Elle n'apprécie pas vraiment l'épouse de son fils et lui reproche de l'avoir rendu docile et paresseux, allant jusqu'à l'insulter de sorcière.
