Synopsis
The movie is about Ilangovan aka Ilango (Parthiban), a middle-class youth, who dreams to get his sister Kavitha (Mallika married to a millionaire. He is very keen on becoming rich and falls in love with Roopa (Lakshmi Rai), daughter of a rich industrialist. Now and then Ilango comes across Chellappa (Vadivelu), a petty thief, and takes him for a fun ride. A sequence of events makes Ilango realize that money is not everything in life. He finally, along with Chellappa, takes efforts to get his sister married to the boy whom she loves.Acteurs

Sekhar (Murali) and Muthuraman (Parthiban) live in two different villages. However, they have two things in common: both the families (of Murali and Parthiban) are neck-deep in poverty and they want to send their eldest family member to Dubai to earn good amount of money for their families. Both Muthuraman and Sekhar along with many dreaming to go to Dubai give money to a middleman to buy them passports and visas. Everyone goes to the Chennai airport only to find that they were duped by the middleman. Sekhar and Muthuraman prefer not to go home as their loved ones might be heart-broken to know the fact. Hence, both of them agree that while Muthuraman goes to Sekhar's house saying that he was sent by Sekhar and vice versa. Back at home, an educated Muthuraman finds that though Sekhar's family land is unfit for agriculture; it can be used for grazing of cows. Hence Muthuraman manages to secure a loan with the help of Sudalai (Vadivelu) to buy a couple of cows and help the family earn a big profit; while Sekhar finds that Valli, Muthuraman's wife (Meena), is good at cooking and he suggests her to start a business in cooking. In this way, both families succeed in their efforts. Before the climax, Valli was pregnant and admitted to a hospital in Coimbatore and Sekhar asks Muthuraman to go there. At the right time, Pazhani (Charle), one of the persons who was cheated by the middleman, finds that the cheat has come into Coimbatore too in another disguise and he informs this to Muthuraman and Sekhar when he finds them. In order to prevent any more people to be fleeced by the middleman, the duo set out to bash him. At the right time; the police arrives and he promises them that the cheated men will be given passports and visas to Dubai. However; Muthuraman and Sekhar say that they do not want to go to Dubai or any other country as they became prosperous in their motherland due to their self-confidence.

The story revolves around Bharathi (R. Parthiepan), a worker for a rich Vellaisamy Thevar Zamindar (Vijayakumar). He comes from a lower caste and falls in love with the rich Zamindar's daughter Kannamma (Meena). Kannamma feels the same way, however their differing castes become a barrier, and as Kannamma's marriage is fixed to a wealthy man, Bharathi doesn't have the courage to express his disapproval or start a relationship with Kannamma. His allegiance to the Zamindar, along with his fear of the caste system make him unwilling to stop the marriage. Bharathi's sister, however, also falls in love with a rich young man from a neighbouring town, and their differing circumstances do not hinder them from forming a relationship. In the end, Kannamma commits suicide and Bharathi jumps into her funeral pyre kills himself (in reference to the past Hindu practice of sati).

The film begins at a journey in train where Paari (Jiiva) looks back at everything. Cut to the beginning, one remote village in Ramanathapuram. Paari is a do-gooder helping everyone in need. A magnanimous man, he gives anything and everything to others if they ask for. Promising his dad (Azhagam Perumal) to earn more, Paari sets out to Chennai. But he faces more challenges. He meets a young girl Madhi (Poonam Bajwa) and falls in love with her. Some goons also cause trouble for Paari. Shakti (Madhavan) is a young man from a village, with no job but much ambition and dreams. Le docteur Saravanan, un psychiatre, retourne en Inde voir son ami Sendhil et sa femme Ganga. R. Parthiban plays a die hard fan of Rambha and a self-interest governed taxi driver whose name is never revealed throughout the movie. Meena plays Mahalakshimi, the daughter of a "zamindar" who has lost all his money due to financial troubles; his death leaves Mahalakshimi with a lot of debts (over two lakhs worth). Parthipan is the taxi driver that drives Meena's dead father's corpse back to her hometown. There, the people that Mahalakshimi is now indebted to by Anand Raj who torture Mahalakshimi with cruel words for being unable to pay the debt. Later Parthiban helps her out by giving his taxi in replace to Meena's debt to save her at the point of time. But the twist in the movie is that Parthiban irritates Meena, though unwillingly, to get back his taxi as soon as possible. In the later part Meena will fall in love with Parthiban for his continuous help and support towards Meena. At that time Parthiban's dream girl Actress Rambha comes for shooting in that palace, which makes Meena very angry and jealous as all his attention has been diverted to Rambha. At the end of shooting, Rambha tries to talk Parthiban and Meena and makes them realise their love for each other. But Meena never sees any sign of Parthiban loving her and thus accepts to marry the villain (Anand Raj's) son to get back Parthiban's taxi and settle her debt. Eventually, Parthiban realises his love for Meena and tries to stop the wedding as the groom is also a bad guy who cheated Manorama's daughter. Finally the movie ends on a happy note with Meena getting back all her money and property and leading a happy life with Parthiban.
