Satyamoorthy is a wealthy diamond business man and a widower living with his younger brother Raja (Rajinikanth) and two daughters Radha and Chitra. Satyamoorthy is a great devotee of saints and priests trusting all of them to be genuine whereas Raja is a happy go lucky guy just opposite to his brother who does not trust any of them. Satyamoorthy once invites a priest to his home to perform rituals to drive away all evil surrounding his house not knowing that the priest is a fake and member of a robber gang. Satyamoorthy takes him to his treasury room where he had stored his huge wealth and tells him the secret of unlocking his lockers. The fake priest pretends to give a sacred sheet and instructs to place it inside the locker which shall protect the stuffs. As Raja suspected, the priest sends the robbers at night to loot the wealth but Raja wakes up and fights with them and restores the looted property. Raja's repeated attempts to prove that the priest is fake goes vain as Satyamoorthy believes strongly that Raja protected the wealth only because of the divine power of the sacred sheet.

The movie revolves around three men Shankar, Salim and Simon who take the responsibility of reforming the society. Simon (Rajinikanth) and Salim (Jaiganesh) come from lower class, while Shankar (Vijayakumar) and his sister (Latha) are the children of (V. S. Raghavan), a corrupt businessman. Latha falls in love with Rajini, while Vijayakumar falls in love with Manjula Vijayakumar and Jaiganesh is already married. In different circumstances, Latha is forced to marry a man, but she runs away from him and lives with Rajini. So, Ram works as house broker and with his get salary buys gifts for his family members except Uma. Because he must avoid her. Ram Kumar was mostly hated his wife Uma. But Uma try to her husband was goes to high position and correcting for his bad behaviors. Ram was changed totally and look like a new man. Meenakshi and Uma goes to temple at the time Masilamani (V. Gopalakrishnan) met meenakshi and he give some files and told it was corrected sudaresan for immediately. Uma was hear all news and she was found the all truth of hidden secrets of Sundaresan and told her mother-in-law Pandari Bai. Pandari Bai angery with her son Sundaresan,and requested to him leave the illegal work. But Meenakshi was argue to her mother-in-law and decided we goes to neutral family and come from new house. After Sundaresan activities was goes crudely, he was ever heavily drinking and smoking and goes to night clubs. And Sundaresan not spending time for his wife. He was totally changed reasonable for her jealous character only so, she was cried. Sundaresan Mother Pandari Bai was die bedded Uma was told to Meenakshi. Meenakshi wakeup Sundaresan but he is not steadily. Sundaresan was heavily drinking and flatted to bed. Then Ram Kumar was do the ritual event. Finally, Sundaresan was feel about his mother death and goes to police station approve his all crime and illegal activities and surrendered.

Sundaram (M. G. Ramachandran) is an innocent band musician who lives with his physically challenged sister Sita (Sharada) in a village. He needs more money for his sister's marriage and he sets off to Madras to earn. On the other hand Madras city Police department is shocked by series of diamond thefts. But Inspector Mohan (M. N. Nambiar) suspects the thief to be Ranjith Kumar (M. G. Ramachandran) who is actually a wealthy diamond businessman on the accounts that whenever a theft occurs he is present there. But he has no evidence and searches for that. He creates a plan with Leela (Manjula) to attract Ranjith to know his secret plans. Sundaram arrives the city and goes to an party hall. Ranjith who arrives the party surprised to see Sunadaram as he looks identical as him. He immediately plots for a plan. He takes Sundaram to his place and reveals himself. He convinces Sundaram to act like Ranjith in front of the society as he is a heart patient and require a treatment. Until his return from treatment Sundaram has to make believe everybody that he is Ranjith. Actually he makes him as Ranjith so that he can continue with his diamond smuggling meanwhile there will not be any evidence as Sundaram is going to be Ranjith everywhere. But he did not reveal the reason to him. He also promises that he would give money for his sister's marriage. Innocent Sundaram believes him and agrees to the plan.
