Neramu Siksha (English title: Crime and Punishment; Telugu: నేరము – శిక్ష) is a 1973 Telugu film directed by K. Viswanath. It is written and produced by veteran actor M. Balaiah. It was a big hit and made into Tamil and Hindi languages.

Synopsis

Krishna is son of a rich businessman couple (Kanta Rao and Pandari Bai). Bharathi is also a daughter of another rich man (Rao Gopal Rao). Krishna is grown up without knowing or facing any problems and gets a new car. While driving in competition with his friend Satyam (Satyanarayana), he accidentally kills Balaiah's brother and blinds Balaiah. Somehow this incident comes to the knowledge of Kanta Rao and he confronts Krishna and throws him out of house. Krishna then ends up as one of the servants at Rao Gopal Rao's home. He also gets to know Balaiah and his family. He realizes the intensity of his mistake and vows to make Balaiah and his family's life better. Balaiah on the other hand vows to kill the person responsible for his brother's death and his blindness. Knowing about his fate in the hands of Balaiah, Krishna keeps helping them. Finally, Balaiah learns about Krishna and excuses him.

The kingdom of Dasharna’s has a brave and able army chief by the name Vikrama Simha (Krishna). Princess Alaknanda Devi (Jayapradha) is in love with him. The chief minister contrives to dethrone the king and procure the throne for his son. But as long as Vikrama Singha is present, his plans cannot bear fruit. So he traps Vikrama Singha by getting false witnesses to testify that he has tried to kill the princess. Vikrama Simha is exiled. Meanwhile, the neighbouring kingdom of Avanti has the crown prince Aditya Vardhana (Krishna) who looks exactly like Vikrama Singha is very jovial and tries to spend his time with Jaswanthi (Radha), a dancer who dances in the kingdom. The Queen of Avanti is not happy with this behavior of Aditya Vardhana and she tries to change his behavior and she succeeds in that. She always wanted Aditya Vardhana to get married to Alakananda Devi. But when Aditya Vardhana went to hunt in the forest, he finds Chandana or Vishakanya ( Mandakini) and falls in love with her. Chandana also loves him. Later after some incidents Chandana learns that she is a Vishakanya. She tries to commit Suicide but later is saved by Vikrama Simha. He changes Chandana. Aditya Vardhana convinces Vikrama Simha to rule his kingdom till some problems in the kingdom are solved. Vikrama Simha accepts to that and later returns the throne to Aditya Vardhana. The Raja Guru of Avanti contrives to procure the throne for his son. Aditya Vardhana marries Chandana. Vikrama Simha finally foils the chief minister’s plans to acquire the throne of Dasharna. Vikrama Simha marries Alakananda Devi.

Gummadi is a wealthy man. He has two daughters. His father is Relangi. Gummadi loves his elder daughter Sundari (Kanchana) dearly and appoints a Private Master (Ram Mohan) for tuition at home. Krishna (Krishna) wanted to become very rich and is prepared to do anything with the help of his friends Vijayalalitha and Chalam. During the private tuitions Sundari and teacher started loving each other. They decided to marry with the permission of their elders. Krishna traps Gummadi and wanted to become his son-in-law. There is a friction between the family members. Gummadi is ready to forget he help from the father of Private Master and decides to marry Sundari with Krishna. Grandfather Relangi helps Sundari and Private Master to marry in a Temple. To ease the tension and save the family prestige, her sister Sukanya convinces Krishna for marrying her. Gummadi sends Sundari out of home. They live happily in poverty, while Krishna gradually making money. Finally Grandfather with the help of Private master and Sundari exposes Krishna and his friends and the film ends happily.

Narasimha Murti (Chiranjeevi) is a multi-talented person who works as a waiter in a star hotel (filming location: Dolphin Hotel, Visakhapatnam) since he is unable to pass his B.A. exams. He meets Sujata (Sumalata), a lecturer who works in a college run by councillor Ankela Adiseshayya (Kaikala Satyanarayana). Mohan (Girish), who is an engineer and elder son of Adiseshayya, comes to Sujatha's place with his father for a marriage proposal. Hyderabad-bred Narain goes to a village, where he meets and falls in love with a village belle, Yashodra. She also is attracted to him, and both get married. After their marriage, both go to live with Narain's parents, brother, and sister-in-law, Lalita, and her son, Sonu. Yashodra gets close to Sonu, and starts to spend all her time with him. This raises some concerns with Lalita, which results in some acrimony. Tragically, Sonu passes away, leaving Yashodra devastated and depressed. She gets pregnant and gives birth to a baby girl, but cannot get Sonu out of her mind. Her depression gives way to insanity, as she keeps on seeing Sonu in every child, and as a result she is institutionalized. Narain has taken to alcohol in a big way and drowns his sorrows and frustrations day and night in a drunken stupor. As a result, his daughter is adopted by Lalita and his brother, without knowing who her real parents are. Years pass by, her daughter, Asha, has grown up and is herself a mother of a baby boy, and settled in the U.S.. Asha arrives in India for a visit and the entire family assembles to visit Yashodra. They find her holding a piece of log, covered in a blanket, singing to it as if it where Sonu. It is here that Asha finds out who her real parents are, and it is here that she will be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice.
