Gummadi Venkateswara Rao (9 July 1928 – 26 January 2010), widely known as Gummadi, was an Indian film actor and producer, known for his works predominantly in Telugu cinema and a few Tamil films. Known as a character actor, Gummadi was starred in around five hundred feature films. He received critical reception for his works in Thodu Dongalu (1954) and Mahamantri Timmarusu (1962), for which he has received the erstwhile Rashtrapati Award. Gummadi was an official member of the Indian delegation from South India to the Tashkent Film Festival in 1978 and 1982.
Gummadi served as a jury member thrice for the 28th, 33rd, and 39th National Film Awards. He served twice on the state Nandi Awards Committee. In 1977, he was awarded India's fourth-highest civilian honor Padma Shri for his contributions to Indian cinema. He is widely known for his roles in films such as Maya Bazar (1957), Maa Inti Mahalakshmi (1959), Kula Daivam (1960), Kula Gothralu (1962), Jyothi (1977), Nelavanka (1981), Maro Malupu (1982), Ekalavya (1982), Ee Charitra Ye Siraatho? (1982), Gaaju Bommalu (1983), and Pelli Pustakam (1991). In 2008 he was starred in Jagadguru Sree Kasi Nayana Charitra which remained his last film.

Biographie
Gummadi was married and had five daughters and two sons. He died of multiple organ failure at Care hospital, Hyderabad on 26 January 2010. His last public appearance was at the screening of Maya Bazar which had since been colorized. Bose (Chiranjeevi) is a very patriotic man who fights for the rights of the local market workers against Aatma (Sharat Saxena), the nearby underworld don. Seeing his dedication for helping the working poor, the Chief Minister (Gummadi Venkateswara Rao) asks him to enter politics. As a politician, he takes charge of a special branch of commandos and destroys Aatma's illegal operations. In retaliation Aatma has Bose's sister falsely implicated in a prostitution case, after which she commits suicide on the court steps. Bose resigns from his position and takes revenge on Aatma. Finally, he returns to his old life at the market.

Justice Ram Mohan Rao (ANR) is a retired honest judge who lives with a joint family. They always fight with each other. But on a certain occasion Anand falls in love with Kavita but she thinks that he is just trying to fool her. Sivaram (Satyanarayana) opponent businessman to Venkataramaiah, who once worked as a worker under Venkataramaiah, always had quarrels with Venkataramaiah and Anand. After sometime Kavitha understands Anand's love, but his family members did not agree for their marriage, so Anand leaves the house and marries Kavitha. Meanwhile Sivaram throws Venkataramaiah into heavy debts, so entire property comes to the occasion. Remaining children leaves Venkataramaiah alone which leads to his heart attack and his wife's death. Finally, Anand comes to their rescue and who he keeps up his parents prestige and honor, forms the rest of the story.

The film begins with election campaigning in Bobbili Village. Sundaraiyah (Gummadi) and Rajeswari Devi (Vanisree) are strong opponents in elections. Rajeswari Devi and her elder brother Ahobala Rao (Kota Srinivasa Rao) plays a lot of tactics to win the elections. But their younger brother Suryam (Vidya Sagar) supports Sundaraiyah and also loves his daughter Rajyalakshmi (Sumitra) and she becomes pregnant. Everybody dishonors her and Ahobala Rao wants to take an advantage of the situation in the election campaign. When Suryam decides to reveal the truth to everyone, Ahobala Rao tries to stop him, in that quarrel Suryam dies accidentally. Ahobala Rao plays a game and keeps the blame on Sundaraiyah & Rajyalakshmi, both of them are arrested, but somehow they escape from jail and reaches a forest.
