The plot revolves around the life in a typical, Malayali household- consisting of four brothers- Nandakumar- A Hindi teacher in the local school, Gopakumar- A medical representative, Krishnakumar- A court office clerk and Chandrakumar- a college student (also the youngest), in order of their age. The first three brothers are married to- Kausalya, Indumati, Anandam, 3 naiive, and shallow wives who adore their husbands dearly and whom the husbands equally love. The family is headed by their father, Munshi Parameshwaran Pillai, a veteran Gandhian teacher respected by everyone in their village, who also homeschools his grandchildren. The youngest brother Chandrakumar is in love with his to-be engaged fiancée, Asha, his cousin. Their relationship is oppressed by the family members because of a small feud between them. But otherwise, the household is a happy, peaceful and satisfied one until the arrival of their new neighbor- an irresistibly charming and beautiful South Indian heroine- Yamuna Rani. This turns the household upside down and sends the ladies into a frenzy. The ladies in order to please the superstar, glamourizes themselves, their husbands and the house. Thus, they form a formidable friendship with Yamuna Rani. Soon, trouble starts to brew, when the loan, with which they bought their new household items in order to impress Yamuna Rani, needs to be paid back to the moneylender. The trouble further escalates when the ladies, each, receive a letter from an anonymous identity, which claims that one of the three men are having an extramarital affair with Yamuna Rani.

The film tells the story of a rich orphan - Apputtan, a generous and liberal man. He helps settle the financial woes of people in the village. He is attracted to a girl whose education he has been sponsoring. But her response to his love after becoming a doctor at his expense, was something Apputtan had least expected. As Apputtan has studied only up to high school, she treats him like an illiterate. The film ends well with the girl developing interest towards Apputtan.

Payyarathu Padmanabhan Nair(Kalamandalam Kesavan), who is a well known personality is Praised by the people. He lives precedence life with his whole family members(Kootukudumbam), his Friend Reeve Sankunni(Oduvil Unnikrishnan) and Servant Kuttan(Kalabhavan Mani). He loves his family more than his life but they eyes on his wealth. On the day of his niece Meenakshi's wedding day he meets with a young man Ramanathan(Jayaram). Slowly Ramanathan gets into the family to stay with his father. The men of the family sells the kitchen's rice and other goods without Padmanabhan Nair's knowledge. Ramanathan and Sankunni came know about this. They tries to prevent this action. The family members reveals the truth to Padmanabhan Nair that Ramanathan is Sankunni's nephew and they thrown out of the house. Later Padmanabhan Nair asks Sankunni 'Who is Ramanathan ?' and Sankunni reveals the truth. Padmanabhan Nair rushes to his son and hugs him. But he is in delema that he wanted to accept his son but he can't reveal the truth to the family to save his reputation. The hurted Ramanathan Challenges his father he will accept and tell the truth to whole family.

Madhu aka Madhavan (Jayaram) is a successful playback singer. Unnikrishan (Jayaram) wants to become a secret agent like his idol, Prem Nazir. His parents and his girlfriend support him but Unnikrishan still cannot find a job. He later gets selected as a trainee in a private detective agency called Secret Files. He is given the task of investigating a businessman's daughter's record. He faces two rivals, Premshankar who pretends to love Arundathi, and Oomen Koshy is a working as a gardener in her house. They are from the same detective agency investigating the same case.
