Starring Venkatesh, Revathi played the lead roles, with original soundtrack by Ilaiyaraaja. The film was a musical blockbuster of the time, but recorded as Average at the box-office. It was dubbed in Tamil as Anbu Chinnam. Suresh remade the film in Hindi as Love with Salman Khan and Revathi.
Synopsis
Pruthvi (Venkatesh) was an orphan and tries hard to become a great singer. One day he comes across with a beautiful, naughty young girl Maggi (Revathi Menon) and they both fall in love. But when he approached Maggi's parents to ask her hand in marriage, his criminal background comes in between and they disagree. In past Pruthvi has killed his father as his father was the reason for his mother's suicide.Acteurs

This film depicts the disputes between two forms of the dance styles and music, Classical Indian (in particular Carnatic music and Bharathanatyam danceform) against rural Tamil folk music and dance. The film depicts the misunderstanding and mutual ignorance of the two factions. The parallel plot in the movie is of the children and intended successors of the respective dance doyens falling in love with each other. Ramachandra Rao/Ramu (Ramakrishna) falls in love with a beautiful girl, Lalitha (Manjula) who is also his cousin. He loves her so deeply that he wants to marry her at any cost. His father (Kanta Rao) is the Head of the village, his mother (Savitri) a housewife. Due to some internal disputes between Ramachandra Rao's parents and Lalitha's parents, Lalitha's father (Mikkilineni) denies the proposal. Later according to his parents wish, Ramachandra Rao is forced to marry another girl, Gouri (Vanisri) the daughter of a lawyer (Relangi). But he refuses to accept her as his wife as he is already in love with Lalitha, and does not behave properly with Gouri (now his wife). His parents observe their son’s behavior and leave for pilgrimage, thinking that their absence will bring both wife and husband together. Gouri is very obedient though she is well educated and rich. She loves her husband very much and expects the same from him like any other wife. But her husband continues to neglect her. She even asks him the reason for rejecting her. He says that he is helpless and asks her to go to her mother’s place. She refuses to leave and continues to stay in the same house along with her husband. She prays to her favorite God daily with great devotion. God listens to her at the end and her husband accepts her as his wife and gives her all his love. Jailed as a juvenile for killing his abusive father (Sudhir Kumar) who is responsible for his mother's suicide, Prithvi (Salman Khan) is unable to stand any atrocity. He meets Maggie Pinto (Revathi Menon) and after a few chance meetings, they both fall in love. Maggie takes Prithvi to meet her parents, but they reject him after learning about his criminal past. When Maggie and Prithvi persist, Maggie's mother, Stella Pinto (Rita Bhaduri), calls the police and has Prithvi jailed. Guruji (Amjad Khan) comes to Prithvi's aid and bails him out. Prithvi and Maggie continue their courtship, but Stella finds out and intervenes, sending goons to attack Prithvi, during which Maggie is injured. Ramu (Venkatesh) leads a carefree life, living along with his widowed mother in a village. He was in love with Usha (Rambha), daughter of Dharmaiah (Gollapudi Maruti Rao), village president.
