When a young boy loses his first love, he becomes lonely and sad. He tries desperately to find a solution to his loneliness, while still believing that his lost love will eventually return to him. He uses drugs and alcohol to forget, but it is not successful. He keeps waiting, expecting his ex-girlfriend to return, but she never comes back. The beautiful young girl feels remorse for what she did to her boyfriend. Even though she was the one who ended the relationship, she still loved the young boy. She thinks about asking for forgiveness and starting their relationship over again, and eventually sends a text message to her ex-boyfriend saying that she still loves him.

The hero's mother, Sakunthala, is a rich and noble woman from Colombo. Sakunthala goes to the hill country city seeking revenge on her former lover who deserted her 25 years ago. When the mayor finds that his daughter is in love with Sakunthala's son, he makes every effort to break up their romance. Sakunthala also attempts to break up the young couple since she knows that the mayor is her son's father. However, the mayor's wife reveals a secret which allows the young lovers to reunite and teaches a lesson in ethnic harmony.

The film starts in a room full of bomb making material and newspaper articles about LTTE bombings in Sri Lanka, the screen then cuts to a typical busy morning in Colombo. "The Man" (Ben Kingsley) plants five bombs around the city; on a public bus, in a shopping mall and the Polgoda police station, on an intercity train, and at the Katukurunda Airfield. The man then establishes his mini control station on top a skyscraper in Dehiwala and calls the police chief Morris Da Silva (Ben Cross) and informs him that if four prisoners are not released, the bombs will be detonated.
