Perry N. Vekroff (3 June 1881 – 3 January 1937) was an American film director, screenwriter and actor of the silent era. He directed 19 films between 1914 and 1922, including two film serials for the Universal Film Manufacturing Company and one for Pathé.

He was born in Shumen, Bulgaria and died in Hollywood, California.

Al Jolson plays Gus, a loyal stable boy and jockey to a rich family in the South that has been interested in horse racing and breeding horses for generations. (In a flashback we see Jolson's grandfather, who also worked for the same family back in 1870.) The young heir of the family, Jack, loses a lot of money by gambling and is blackmailed by the crooks he lost to for forging a check. They convince Jack to ask his mother to replace Gus with another jockey for the family's racehorse, "Big Boy", but she refuses. The crooks frame Gus and he is discharged for tampering with the horse. Gus is replaced by a jockey who has been bought off to lose on purpose. Gus find works as a waiter in a fancy restaurant. While working there he uncovers the details about the race throwing plot and he reveals this to Hughes and then, with his help, outsmarts the crooks just in time to then ride "Big Boy" to victory.

L'histoire se déroule vers la fin de la première Guerre mondiale. Georgie Wilson joue avec des amis. Quand l'un d'entre eux l'accuse de tricher, ils se battent. Quand Wilson voit son adversaire tomber dans les escaliers, il suppose qu'il est mort. Il s'échappe avec son ami Tim, avant que la police n'arrive en rejoignant un défilé d'hommes qui s'inscrivent à l'armée. Ils finissent par se joindre alors que Tim se rendait compte qu'il voulait rejoindre l'armée. Ils se sont mis en difficulté avec leur capitaine à de nombreuses reprises, ce qui l'a amené à les punir à plusieurs reprises en les rendant stables. Quand ils sont stationnés dans la ville allemande de Coblence, Wilson rencontre et tombe amoureux de Gretchen Rittner, fille d'un aubergiste. Il est incapable de lui proposer un mariage, cependant, avec une accusation de meurtre suspendue à sa tête. Finalement, l'homme qu'il pensait avoir assassiné se révélait et cela permet à Wilson de se marier définitivement avec Gretchen.
