The film covers the 2005 edition of the Race Across America. It focuses on several riders, including Jure Robic, Bob Breedlove, Christopher MacDonald, and Patrick Autissier. From the starting line in San Diego, the film follows the riders across the country as they endure difficult weather, challenging terrain, and sleep deprivation. Several days into the race, Breedlove, a race veteran and endurance cycling legend, is killed in a head-on collision with a pickup truck. The other riders must deal with the aftermath of the accident and decide whether to continue the race.
Lesser known parts of India are explored as a five fellow bike riders from the 60KPH club set out on an expedition across the less travelled Indian north eastern state of Arunachal Pradesh to chart a route that supposedly does not exist. The bikers chronicle their attempt to travel from Tawang in west Arunachal to Dong in the east without entering the state of Assam.
It focuses on five individuals from around the world: Fred, a caregiver from Zambia who rides from village to village visiting AIDS patients; Carlos in Guatemala, who invented a pedal-powered device that offers a small-scale alternative to diesel-fueled machines; Sharkey, who avoids gang life by working in a Santa Barbara, California neighborhood bike shop; Bharati, a young girl in India who gets an education because she has a bicycle to ride to school; and Mirriam, a bike mechanic in Ghana stricken with Polio.

Tant de choix à faire au quotidien ! À chacun sa route, sa direction, son azimut. Olivier Higgins et Mélanie Carrier ont choisi de partir à vélo pour leur première grande aventure. L’Asie, 8000 kilomètres, de la Mongolie à la plaine du Gange en Inde, en passant par le Xinjiang, le désert du Taklamakan, le Tibet et le Népal. Ils partent bien sûr pour découvrir le monde, mais par-dessus tout, pour se découvrir. Qui sont-ils ? Que souhaitent-ils ? Quelle est leur place dans ce monde? Peut-être cet audacieux périple, au travers ses rencontres, ses obstacles et ses découvertes, saura-t-il les faire réfléchir… N’avons-nous pas tous un « Asiemut » en commun ?
Le réalisateur Pepe Danquart suit avec une équipe de trois cadreurs l'équipe cycliste Deutsche Telekom pendant le Tour de France 2003, notamment Erik Zabel et Rolf Aldag, amis depuis plusieurs années. Danquart montre surtout le côté humain des sportifs, la douleur et les faiblesses du cycliste et le battage médiatique qui entoure le plus grand évènement sportif annuel.
