Udaan (English translation - Flight) is 1997 Hindi language movie directed by Asrani and starring Rekha, Saif Ali Khan, Prem Chopra, Danny Denzongpa, Dalip Tahil, Asrani, Deven Varma, Annu Kapoor, Mohnish Bahl.

Synopsis

A wealthy industrialist is killed by a villainous trio. The industrialist's daughter Varsha (Rekha) slowly starts to unravel the truth about her father's death, she is quickly disposed off to an asylum. Varsha escapes from there with the help of a man named Raja (Saif Ali Khan). Now, Varsha and Raja together start on a difficult journey to bring the villains to justice. The film with other subjects also deals with product Adulteration and injustice in society.

King Vikram Singh (Amjad Khan) rules over a tiny state in India, called Vikramgarh. His sons are the royal twin-brothers Harshvardhan and Govardhan (double role by Jackie Shroff). Harshvardhan is the smarter one of them, hence he is regarded to become the future King of Vikramgarh. The Diwan Thakur Karan Singh (Kader Khan) is his loyal friend who stays at the prince's side all the time to train him for his future duties. Mithun is an honest police officer of the department and he is in love with Somy Ali. Even though he is a strict person to the outside world, he is lenient with his younger brother Saif at home. Saif Ali Khan, a "happy go lucky" guy falls in love with Shweta. Meantime, a group of five criminals (Prem Chopra, Gulshan Grover,Punit Issar, Amrit Pal and Sheila) plots a bank robbery and Saif is implicated in the robbery putting him on the run from the police. Officially Mithun is assigned the task of arresting Saif at any cost and he makes all efforts to nab Saif, but fails. Another important character is a governor, husband of Sheila. The situation become even worse when the members of the group are killed one by one. Mithun is now determined to catch Saif dead or alive. Meanwhile, Mithun also reveals that his girlfriend Somy Ali is a bar dancer who works in the bar owned by the same criminals. On the other hand, Saif also tries to collect evidence to prove his innocence to his brother, but gets in a bigger problem as Somy Ali sees him coming out of the house of the criminal who was killed.

Judge Jagdish Verma (Raza Murad) has an accused by the name of Yogi Shankar (Kiran Kumar) in his courtroom. Judge Verma was once Yogi's defence lawyer, but now must pass a sentence against him. Yogi pleads his innocence, but the Judge finds him guilty, and Yogi is sentenced to a long term (7 years) in jail. Yogi swears to avenge this injustice and humiliation. Judge Verma's family consists of Urmila (Beena Banerjee), two sons, Kunal and Karan (Sunil Shetty and Saif Ali Khan respectively), and a daughter Tina (Madhoo). Yogi serves out his term and is released from jail, seeking revenge against Juge Verma and his family. He abducts young Tina and plans to use her to control the judge and his judgments. The family is instructed not to contact the police, for the safety of Tina, and to keep this abduction a secret. Tina grows up in the company of Yogi and his men, without knowing her biological family. Tina is then used to ensnare the family into more deceit and entrapment under the direction of Yogi, leaving the Verma family no choice but to go along with Yogi's plan.

Maharaj Singh is a proud owner of several derby-winning stallions, and lives in a palatial farmhouse with his wife, Rukmini and young son, Chimpoo. It is then Badal confesses to Maharaj that he is not Chimpoo, but a former convicted jailbird, who was asked to impersonate him by an embittered Ram Singh. Maharaj does not want to relay this information to an ailing Rukmini, and decides to keep it quiet for the rest of their lives.
