Shunyo (Bengali: শূণ্য; English: Zero) is an upcoming Bengali film directed by Rudranil Ghosh, produced by Workshop Productions Pvt. Ltd. and starring Anjan Dutt.

Synopsis

The story actually revolves around the daughter of a frontline businessman of the city named Neha Jaiswal, who is desperate to tie her knot with Gogol, a boy belonging to a middle-class family. They go on a college trip to Kalimpong but however they does not return alive. The mystery starts at this very moment. The character of Neha is played by newcomer Rai and Gogol is played by Debanjan. “It was actually so great working with Rudra Da (Rudranil Ghosh). He taught us every moment what to do and what not to. It was more of a learning experience for us”, said Rai who has also appeared for his class 10 CBSE board exams this year.

The movie revolves around two old school friends, Jeet (Parambrata Chattopadhyay) and Raj (Rudranil Ghosh) who coincidentally came across each after a long time. While Jeet, a partner in a big architect firm, which he inherited from his deceased father-in-law; Raj is a struggling singer in a band. Jeet and Raj were invited to a party of a non-Bengali business client of Jeet, where Raj flirted with the businessman's daughter Inka (Neha Panda). After party, both the friends bought drinks from closed shops and drank in the open. Both of them wished they had each other life. After getting up from sleep, both of them found that their soul has interchanged. Both of the friends were surprised to find themselves in that situation. While both of them tried to be loyal, but found it difficult to live in each other's life. In the meanwhile Raj (in Jeet's body) visited Chandannagar, his home town to meet his parents, which he left years ago to make a career in singing. Even, Jeet (in Raj's body) came to visit his house to see his child. Inka came to stay with Raj (actually Jeet's soul) after she had a fight with her parents. Both the friends tried to manage each other's work. While, Raj gave an interesting solution of using terracotta in bathroom instead of gold plates to the Indonesian clients. Jeet, on the other hand introduced Inka as a lead singer in their band, whose performance was well appreciated. The two friends, decided to get back to each other's life, they repeated the same acts they did on the day they interchanged and were successful in getting back their souls in their own body. The movie ended with Raj going for a trip to Chandannagar to visit his parents.

Rudra Chatterjee has spent his life going against social convention. As a young man he defied his father's wishes, and became a choreographer instead of an engineer. As he prepares with his team to stage Tagore's Chitrangada, he meets Partho, Jisshu Sengupta who is a drug-addict percussionist introduced to the team by the main dancer Kasturi Raima Sen. Soon, Rudra develops a chemistry with Partho and they are deep into a passionate love affair. During the course of their relationship, they decide to adopt a child. But there is one problem: same-sex couples are not permitted to adopt children. So Rudra decides to go through a gender change treatment to embrace the womanhood he longs for. But will this surgery change his life and fulfill all his long-cherished dreams? The story ends with the line 'Be What You Wish To Be'. The movie comes out with the message that it's your wish to choose your gender. The movie was a great success with the first class acting of Rituparno Ghosh and other casting crew. The movie exhibits the struggles and day-to-day life of a gay choreographer and his father and mother. It becomes an inspiration to a million for the acceptance of all people in the society and it also becomes an inspiration to the people who can relate themselves with Rudra. Hence the tagline of the film 'The Crowning Wish' is justified with this message. It is a must watch specially for the adult and young adults.
