Pudhumai Pithan (Tamil: புதுமை பித்தன்) is a Tamil language film starring M. G. Ramachandran, T. R. Rajakumari and B. S. Saroja in the lead role. The film was released on 2 August 1957. The film was super hit and ran for 125 days in theatres.
Synopsis
A king is imprisoned by his ambitious brother (T.S.Balaiah),who creates the impression that the king had died during an animal hunt. The crown prince (played by MGR) was on a sea journey and returns to attend the king's fake funeral. During the funeral, the crown prince comes to know the truth, via a secret message conveyed to him by the daughter (B.S.Saroja,in a bearded messenger disguise) of the palace physician. As expected, she falls in love with the prince. The sibling of king also plots to kill the prince by poisoning him with a drug, concocted by the palace physician. The drug was supposed to make the crown prince mad, who acts like a madman poisoned by the drug to fool everyone. Prince is also helped by a woman drama troupe leader (T.R.Rajakumari), who also had affection to the crown prince. Eventually, she sacrifices her life, leaving the prince to unite with the daughter of palace physician. The plotting villains were avenged by the prince and his comedian side kick (Chandrababu).Acteurs

A king has two wives. He banishes his first wife (S. D. Subbulakshmi) as an astrologer told him that he would lose his vision because of her son (MGR). In the opening sequence, jailed former labor leader Nataraj (M. G. Ramachandran) is telling his cellmates about the suffering his family endured as a result of uncle Ponnambalam (K. K. Saraswathi) into marriage. Nataraj hunts down and kills his uncle, which lands him in jail to tell his story.

Thangam (T. R. Rajakumari) is married to a man old enough to be her father, Rajamanickam Mudaliar (D. Thuraisamy) who has two children from his deceased first wife. The daughter is Lakshmi (S. Padma), and son, Selvam (Sivaji Ganesan). Thangam’s husband dies when she is expecting her baby. Selvam falls in love with a rich girl Malathi (Padmini), while a playboy (T. S. Balaiah) does his best to separate them. When Thangam’s child is born, ugly rumours are spread by Lakshmi that the father of the child is Selvam and the two had an incestuous relationship. Malathi believes the rumours and starts tormenting Thangam. How the young widow surmounts the problems forms the rest of the story.

Muthaiyan (MGR) is the brave son of Ratnam Pillai (E. R. Sahadevan) and Meenakshi (P. Kannamba). They are landed gentry and are highly respected in the village for their noble qualities. Meenakshi’s brother Doraiswami (T. S. Balaiah), on the other hand, is despised by all for his arrogance, cruelty and dishonourable ways. The two families are not in speaking terms ever since Doraiswami tried to usurp Ratnam Pillai’s traditional rights at the temple festival. Doraiswami’s daughter, Sivakami (P. Bhanumathi), however, is a good-natured girl who is in love with Muthaiyan. Muthaiyan too reciprocates her love and they are determined to surmount all hurdles and get married. When Doraiswami’s men capture Muthaiyan and keep him a prisoner on the pretext that he had hurled stones at Doraiswami’s prized bull when he had caught it grazing on his crops, Sivakami comes to his rescue.
