Ajouter à une liste de filmsNew Delhi is a 1987 Malayalam thriller film written by Dennis Joseph and directed by Joshiy. It stars Mammootty, Suresh Gopi, Sumalatha, Urvashi, B. Thiagarajan, Siddique, Vijayaraghavan, Mohan Jose, Devan, and Jagannatha Varma.
New Delhi is one of the highest grossing films in the history of Malayalam cinema, it was the top grosser of 1987. The huge success of the film resurrected Mammootty's career in 1987 after having a string of box-office flops in the prior year. Many later films adapted the storyline of New Delhi.
The film was remade and released in Telugu as Anthima Theerpu, with veteran actor Krishnam Raju in the lead, which was directed by Joshiy himself. Joshiy also directed the Hindi and Kannada versions titled "New Delhi". Lead roles were played by Jeetendra in its Hindi version and Ambareesh in the Kannada version , respectively.The story is loosely based on the novel "The Almighty" by Irving Wallace.
Thiagarajan, who played the role of Salem Vishnu in New Delhi, later produced and directed a Tamil film titled Salem Vishnu which showcased the prequel story of his character and why he became a murderer.
Synopsis
New Delhi is about Delhi-based Malayali journalist, G. Krishnamoorthy (Mammootty), who is imprisoned in a mental asylum after exposing the wrongdoings of two corrupt politicians, and the film follows his subsequent attempts at revenge. The story is loosely based on the novel The Almighty by Irving Wallace. It ran clean for 200 days.Acteurs

Viswanathan, a famous director, is haunted by the death of his wife and a young man whom he accidentally hit while driving. Later he meets Shyama, the daughter of his friend, still struggling with the death of her boyfriend, the man whom Viswanathan had killed. They fall in love but Viswanatan tries to avoid her. In the climax, he reveals the truth to shyama. He tries to leave the town but is stopped by her brother chandran. They have a fight and Viswanathan is hurt. The film ends where shyama and viswanathan consoles each other and is united.

The central character of the film is a spiritual leader played by Nedumudi Venu who has devotees all around the world and who received a telephoned death threat. He reports the incident to Police Superintendent Haridas Damodaran (Mammootty) who initiates an investigation into the source of the threat. In the meantime, other important people are being murdered; the investigation later reveals that all of the victims were college classmates. Police arrest a suspect named "Christy" (Suresh Gopi) on murder charges. Proving whether Christy or an unknown perpetrator is the culprit forms the basis of the rest of the investigation.

A new batch of trainees arrives at the army training center (SAT) situated near border in Kashmir. Their trainer is Major Nair Saab (Mammootty) who is a man known for his hard-and-fast training strategies. The movie is treated with humour arising from the intense training of the guys. But, things take a U-turn once when the underworld led by Kumar (Devan)buys out two guys from the batch and use them for importing drugs from the neighboring country which is obviously Pakistan (though never mentioned in the movie).

James, a wealthy businessman, is married to Susanna, an orphan, against the wishes of his family. After James passes away, James' family seems to make amends with Susanna. However, Susanna eventually realizes that their motive is James' wealth. Following a confrontation, the family files a lawsuit against Susanna, claiming her marriage to James is invalid, hence Susanna and her child are not entitled to James' wealth. The family also attempts to isolate Susanna, destroy her marriage records and threaten her into complying with the lawsuit. Receiving no help from anyone, a helpless Susanna by chance encounters George Korah Vettickal, an advocate. Susanna hires George to defend her case. George is beaten by goons and threatened against working on Susanna's case. Following this, a determined George proceeds with the case and uncovers many discrepancies, including the mystery behind James' death, eventually building up the case against James' relatives.
