Dutta directed and produced this war epic which stars Sunny Deol, Sunil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, Jackie Shroff, Tabu, Pooja Bhatt, Puneet Issar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Raakhee and Sharbani Mukherjee. It is the highest grossing Indian film of 1997 and when adjusted for inflation holds as the ninth highest grossing Hindi film of the 90s decade.
The movie is an adaptation from real life events that happened at the Battle of Longewala fought in Rajasthan (Western Theatre) during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 and Bangladesh Liberation War. It is about how a band of 120 soldiers of the Punjab regiment of the Indian Army headed by Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri successfully defended their post all night against a whole tank regiment of the Pakistani Army (The casualties on the Indian side was highly exaggerated in the film), until assistance came from the Indian Air Force the next morning. The film was a critical and commercial hit in India.
Synopsis
The film opens before the declaration of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. At a Forward operating Airbase Air force Wing Commander Anand 'Andy' Bajwa, setting his stop watch waits for the Air raid Siren to go. As the siren goes he sprints Towards his MiG-21 armed, fueled and Ready for take off. Bajwa and His Air Force wingmen soon take off to an unknown Airbase in Rajasthan. Once there, he is Debriefed by his superior that he & his Squadron are assigned to the Jaisalmer sector and has to fly outdated Hawker Hunter Ground attack planes (with no night vision capabilities) to support the Indian Army. He is soon joined by his Brother-in-arms Army Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri (played by Sunny Deol) as they meet on a courier flight and speak about the possibility of opening of the Western front in light of the East Pakistan conflict. Kuldip takes up command of a company of the 23rd Battalion Punjab Regiment, arguing the light defence being assigned to the military post of Longewala. He meets his second in command 2nd Lt Dharamvir Bhan (Akshaye Khanna) (who happens to be the son of a 1965 Indo-Pakistani-War veteran who was killed during that war) and the Company NCO Subedar Mathura Das (Sudesh Berry). The company moves to the remote outpost in the deserts of Rajasthan and begin to expand the rudimentary Border Security Force (BSF) post and does a recce of the area up to the international border with Pakistan. They meet the post's BSF commandant Bhairon Singh (Sunil Shetty), a deeply patriotic man who expresses his love for the desert.Acteurs

Au printemps 1999, des islamistes soutenus par des soldats de l'armée pakistanaise franchissent la Ligne de contrôle (Line of Controle : LOC) qui sépare l'Inde du Pakistan, s'emparant des hauteurs qui surplombent Kargil. On a flight from Chennai to Delhi five passengers retrieve weapons hidden in the toilet and use them to hijack the plane. Chandu (Nagarjuna) and Suri (Rajendra Prasad) are pilots and thick friends. Indu (Raveena Tandon) and Padma (Kasthuri) are very good friends. Chandu gets married to Indu and Suri marries Padma. Indu and Padma become pregnant.Indu meets with a car accident and she becomes infertile. Padma gives birth to twins, Ram and Lakshman. Indu and Chandu adopt Ram. After three years, Lakshman is infected by cancer. He needs to undergo bone marrow transplantation. Indu refuses and flees with Ram to Delhi fearing that Chandu will force her to send Ram for operation. Later on, she realizes her mistake and boards a flight to return to her husband so that Ram can be operated upon. Pakistani militants hijack the flight and they divert the flight's route. Lakshman is on his death-bed. How Chandu rescues the flight's passengers and puts an end to the story forms the climax.
