Pandiarajan and Urvashi have no children even after being married for a long time, Pandiarajan comes to know through the doctor that his wife cannot bear children. Not willing to hurt his wife's feelings, he takes the blame on himself. While on a business tour to Nepal, he marries a Nepali girl (Vinaya) under some unavoidable circumstances. When he comes to know that she is carrying his child, Pandiarajan arranges for her stay at his friend's house. Vinaya delivers a boy and Pandiarajan adopts him with his wife's consent who is not aware of the truth. Unable to suppress her urge to be near her child, the Nepali girl comes as a cook to her husband's house. Pandiarajan's father (R Sundarrajan) comes to know the truth and tells his son to accept Vinaya and make a clean of things to Urvashi. But Pandiarajan who is apprehensive of his wife's reaction begs his father to keep the whole affair under wraps. The story takes a turn to climax when Urvashi, not happy with the goings on in the kitchen, tries to get Vinaya married off to someone else. The movie ends on a happy note when Urvashi comes to a compromise and the two wives live happily with one husband .

Velu Jaishankar a poor farmer, loses his sister Dhanam due to the atrocities and exploitation of landlord Periyasamy. To avenge his sister's death, Velu kills Periyasamy's brother. He then escapes from there. He joins a gang of dacoits, headed by Narasingam. The gang is initially perturbed by Velu's presence, but his courage and good nature wins him their love and respect. Pandian (Pandiarajan), a sale representative, gets married with Rajeswari (Ranjitha). Pandian's mother Vadivu (Vadivukkarasi) is a miser while his father Velmurugan (Manivannan) is a good man and they also have three daughters. Vadivu takes advantage of Rajeswari's salary and dowry. For the marriage of her first daughter Malini (Latha), Vadivu uses Rajeswari's jewels. Then, the groom (Thyagu) losses his job, so Pandian and Rajeswari decide to abortion for the benefit of the family. In the meantime, Malini becomes pregnant. Rajeswari resigns her job whereas Vadivu expected a lot on Rajeswari's salary. One day, Vadivu immolates Rajeswari but Velmurugan saves her at time. Rajeswari leaves Pandian's house and begins to look for a job. Despite the fact that she looks for job everywhere, she didn't find. So she becomes a dressmaker and after that, she becomes the entrepreneur of a clothes factory. Meanwhile, Pandian's family are crippled with debts. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.
