N. Santhanam (born 21 January 1980) is an Indian film actor who has predominantly appeared in Tamil films as a comedian. Beginning his career as a comedian on television shows, he rose to fame through his performances in Vijay TV's Lollu Sabha enacting the lead role in spoofs of Tamil films. He was subsequently given a chance by actor Silambarasan to feature in a supporting role in Manmadhan (2004) and then was signed on to appear in a host of films, notably winning good reviews for his work in Sachien (2005) and Polladhavan (2007). He appeared in a one-off leading role in Shankar's production Arai En 305-il Kadavul (2008) and subsequently became a staple feature as a comedian in successful Tamil films during the period, with his market popularity helping stuck films find distributors. Santhanam has also had embarked on collaborations with directors including gaining positive reviews for his work in M. Rajesh's comic trilogy of Siva Manasula Sakthi (2009), Boss Engira Bhaskaran (2010) and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi (2012), winning the Vijay Award for Best Comedian for each one. He has also repeatedly collaborated in the films of A. L. Vijay, Siva and Sundar C as well as in films featuring Silambarasan, Arya and Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Shiva (Bharath) enters into St.Peters college, Bangalore and meets Pooja (Renuka Menon), who was born and brought up in the United States and has come to India to stay with her grandparents while completing her college education. Sachein (Vijay) is a carefree and happy go lucky guy college student, who comes across the beautiful Shalini (Genelia D'Souza) on college campus and falls deeply in love with her but she doesn't love him. Arnold aka Ayyasamy (Vadivelu) has repeated the same class every year for nine consecutive years. He claims this is because he wants to be grateful to his teachers and Santhanam (Santhanam). Also, Arnold and Santhanam love Shalini. Shaliini doesn't take kindly to Sachein's smitten behaviour. Sachein is able to befriend Shalini through persistence. Shalini grows fond of Sachein. Santhanam, jealous of Sachein's relationship with Shalini, writes a graffiti on the school wall. The graffiti reads "Sachein loves Shalini". Shalini confronts Sachein, and demands an explanation. Sachein pleads his innocence, and Shalini believes him. However, Sachein tells Shalini that even though he didn't write the graffiti, he really does love Shalini. Shalini bashes Sachein, telling him that he does not know the true meaning of love, and tells him she does not love him. The next day, Sachein meets Shalini and tells her that she will fall for him. Shalini takes on Sachein's bet and gives him a total of one month to try and make her fall in love. Shalini though is a good friend of Sachein until Manju (Bipasha Basu) runs behind Sachein with skimpy costumes and makes Shalini go green with envy. Shalini's parents have arranged her wedding with an industrialist's son in Canada, yet Sachein pushes on. Days pass, and yet Sachein is not able to presuade Shalini. On the last day of their bet, Sachein decides to bid goodbye to Shalini and even apologies for running behind her so long. Shalini develops a soft corner for Sachein and decides to express her love to him until his dad (Raghuvaran) who is a multi millionaire comes to meet him. Shalini doesn't express her love because then he will think that she loves him only for the money. Sachein plans on leaving India, and goes to the airport. When Sachein was about to take the plane home Shalini expresses her love to him and they are united.

Simbhu is elected college chairman after he beats Charmi, the daughter of Ravishankar(Radharavi), a minister. Predictably, the two soon fall for each other though they never directly reveal it. But when Ravishankar comes to know of the love affair, he is staunchly against it, and is willing to go any distance to make sure that it never succeeds. At home, Simbu's father(Prakashraj) mentally tortures his wife(Seetha) since he suspects her of having an affair with her ex-lover. Outside home, Simbhu is helped by Vakil Dada (T.Rajendar), a lawyer who makes sure justice is served, whatever the means.

The character 'Kuttichathan' is formed on the basis of the specialties of a deity popularly known as 'Chathan' who is being worshiped mainly in the south Indian state, Kerala. There are cruel magicians everywhere in the world. One of them is the Karimbhootham (black magician), who enslaved an invisible spirit with his magic spells, whom he calls Kuttichathan ("Little Ghost" in English and "Chhota Chetan" in Hindi). Two boys and a girl befriend Kuttichathan by accident and release him from the grip of the magician. They understand that this Chathan is friendly to kids and is a very good friend. Therefore, the girl promises to keep Kuttichathan in a house for two reasons: one, her father drinks too much, so she wants Chathan, who is a very good magician, to make him himself, as her mother has died, there is no one to control him; second, Chathan, being a small boy, also drinks a lot. He could drink all that her father drinks, thereby changing her father's attitude.

Three friends Kaliyaperumal (Santhanam), Power Kumar (Srinivasan) and Shiva (Sethu) have no occupation other than getting drunk and chasing girls. A pretty girl named Sowmiya (Vishaka) moves in with her family to the house opposite Shiva. One day, when none of her other family members are home, the three eventually profess their love, leaving Sowmiya confused. Following the advice of her neighbour (Devadarshini), Sowmiya reveals to all three that she loves actor Simbu. The neighborhood boys then decide to bring Simbu as a gift for Sowmiya's birthday, but Simbu says he does not know anyone named Sowmiya. They then hire a thug named "Kolaveri" David to kidnap Simbu, but he kidnaps Sowmiya instead when he learns he is supposed to kidnap Simbu. After Simbu refuses to help her, Shiva, KK and Power go and save Sowmiya, and she falls in love with Shiva, because Power and KK had earlier beaten Sowmiya's uncle and father severely.

The story revolves around three roommates, journalist J K Boss(Arya), photographer Nagaraj(Santhanam) and Cheenu (Premji) leading an unkempt and debt-ridden life in a shoddy apartment. J K's ditsy fiancée, Madhumita, is an air hostess who agrees to deliver a package for Vladimir Dragunsky (Kim Bodnia) to Nassar, without realizing its contents or that Nassar is a gangster. Madhumita asks J K to deliver the package. JK, in turn, asks Nagaraj to do so. But Nagaraj is unable to do so as he is experiencing 'Chennai Belly'. Nagaraj hands Madhumita's package to Cheenu for delivery to Nassar, along with a package containing his stool sample for delivery to Nagaraj's doctor. Cheenu mixes up the two packages which makes Nassar furious and he starts the investigation by interrogating Vladimir.

Faction feud in Tamil Nadu results in the death of Singaraayor's (Nagineedu) brother and he, along with his two sons Dharma (Ravi Prakash) and Kaali (Sugunthan), vow for revenge. Time turns and comes to Chennai. Here lives Sakthi (N. Santhanam), an innocent and somewhat unlucky guy whose parents are no more and is ousted out of his job. His life takes a turn with a correspondence that he has got five acres of land in his hometown in Tamil nadu. He decides to sell that land and sets off to the village. In this process, he also meets Vaanathi (Ashna Zaveri) who is the daughter of Singaraayor. However, much to Sakthi's bad luck, he happens to be the son of the man who killed Singaraayor's brother and he ends up in their home itself. He takes advantage of a tradition of their house that not even one drop of blood should fall inside the house.Vaanathi falls for Sakthi in the mean time.He escapes in all the plans much to the furious Singaraayor.Soon the story takes a twist when Vaanathi,not knowing that Shakthi is the son of the man who kiled her father's brother ,falls for Shakthi. Raja comes to know about this and refuses to marry Vaanathi. When Raja tells this to Singarrayor, he slaps him. And in the wedding Dharma carries Shakthi away from the temple to kill him. It is then revealed that Shakthi is still in Singaraayor's mansion. Then he runs away from the house only to be chased by Singaraayor's men.But Shakthi narrowly escapes from his death and is saved by Vaanathi. When he crosses a bridge which is located at a very high place, he refuses to let Vaanathi come with him and now Vaanathi comes to know the truth and is heartbroken. Soon Singaraayor and his men arrive to kill Shakthi. He somehow escapes. But suddenly Vaanathi tells her father that she was the one who loved Shakthi. Shakthi has a change of heart and decides to go back to Singaraayor to express his feelings to Vaanathi. Singaraayoor orders his men to beat Shakthi badly. Vaanathi cannot bear this and she jumps from a bridge into a river and Shakthi in turn jumps into the river to save her. Shakthi saves Vaanathi. Singaraayor forgives Shakthi and in the end Shakthi marries Vaanathi.
