Radha Ravi is a Tamil film and television actor, who played supporting roles throughout his career. He is the son of yesteryear actor, M R Radha and the uncle of Vasu Vikram and half-brother of Raadhika Sarathkumar. He is a former chief member of the South Indian Film Artistes' Association. He is known for his roles as an antagonist in Tamil films and a he acted in Chellamae serial. He is also known for his controversial criticism of other film personalities.

This film depicts the disputes between two forms of the dance styles and music, Classical Indian (in particular Carnatic music and Bharathanatyam danceform) against rural Tamil folk music and dance. The film depicts the misunderstanding and mutual ignorance of the two factions. The parallel plot in the movie is of the children and intended successors of the respective dance doyens falling in love with each other. The climax ends with a consensus of both the music genres as well as the young couple, hence the name Sangamam.

Après avoir terminé ses études, Padayappa revient dans sa famille. Il retrouve son père (Sivaji Ganesan), le très respecté zamindar du village. La riche et arrogante Nilambari tombe éperdument amoureuse de Padayappa, mais il lui préfère sa jolie servante Vasanthira. Se sentant insultée, elle lui voue une haine éternelle et jure sa perte. Celle-ci se dessine très vite puisqu’il découvre du granit sur son terrain, et dix-huit ans plus tard le voilà devenu richissime. Mais Nilambari ne l’a pas oublié et compte bien se venger de celui qui l’a rejeté.

Jeevanandhan "Jeeva" (Vijay) is a very rich young man. Although his parents (Sivakumar and Srividhya) want him to settle down, he goes to another city to do his MBA and stays with friends. During this time, he meets Mini (Shalini) and they fall in love. She reciprocates his feelings, but trouble comes in the form of her tyrannical trio of brothers (Raatha Ravi, Thalaivasal Vijay and Shaji Khan) who are over-protective of their little sister and take an irrational dislike to Jeeva. They show hostility towards Jeeva and conflicts arise within the households and the couple decides to elope, they go to Kesavan’s Hometown and Manivannan refuge them before the Proposed Wedding. Jeeva tries to convince his mother one last time and in vain. On the day of the wedding both realize they miss their families. They decide to return home, relinquishing their feelings, and the families are happy and take them back. Jeeva’s Mom wants to see Mini so that she can get a better wife for his son goes to meet Mini. Initially reluctant to welcome them, the brothers hesitate, but their mother is welcomes them, ultimately their families accept their love, and they are reunited.
