Mausam is a dramatic love story of Dr. Amarnath Gill, who falls for Chanda, the daughter of a local healer, Harihar Thapa, when visiting Darjeeling for his medical exams. Amarnath is called back and promises Chanda to return, though he never keeps his promise. Twenty-five years later, he returns as a wealthy man and searches for Chanda and her father. He learns that Harihar has died and that Chanda was married to a crippled old man. She gave birth to a daughter, became insane and died. Finding Chanda's daughter, Kajli, he sees that she closely resembles her mother and later discovers that after having been molested by her mother's brother-in-law, she ended up at a brothel. Amarnath had no choice but to buy her from the brothel and he takes Kajli home and tries to change her into well refined woman to make up for what he did to Chanda. Unaware that Amarnath is indirectly responsible for her mother's death, Kajli begins to fall in love for him.

Arrêté par la police avec sa bande dans les rues de São Paulo, Pixote, un jeune garçon d’une dizaine d’années, est incarcéré dans un centre pénitentiaire pour délinquants juvéniles. Il y apprend " la loi du milieu " : chantage, brimades, rackets, viols des petits par les plus grands. Il s’évade en compagnie d’une transsexuelle, Lilica, de Dito et Chico. Ils volent puis trafiquent de la drogue. Pixote tue une femme qui voulait elle-même voler son stock de drogue. Devenu chef de bande, il rachète une prostituée droguée et malade, surnommée par son ancien proxénète " le tigre " mais dont le nom véritable est Sueli. Elle accepte puis dénonce un rapport qu’il voulait " maternel ". Un nouveau meurtre, engendré mécaniquement par les circonstances, pousse Pixote à fuir São Paulo dans le dénuement physique et moral le plus total.

Paro Dev (Abhay Deol), the son of a rich businessman, is an insecure narcissist. He and Paro (Mahi Gill) are childhood sweethearts. Instead of acknowledging her affection and care, Dev nudges Paro over frivolous things. He is sent to London for higher studies when his father senses how spoilt his son is. While separated by distance, Paro and Dev's youthful love only blossoms more. After finishing his studies, Dev returns to Chandigarh and meets Paro. Their endeavor to make love makes for some dark comic moments. When Dev hears rumours about Paro, he immediately believes them and ditches her. The seeds of suspicion are sown here, which the couple are never able to weed out. What makes them fall apart is mutual suspicion and an essentially male vision of how a woman should conduct herself sexually. Paro turns her back on him when she hears him insult her and agrees to marry a man of her parents' choice. On her wedding day, Dev learns that the rumors were false but his ego doesn't let him accept his mistake, and he lets Paro marry someone else.

At a theatre, Devu watches an advertisement for Glycodin Cough Syrup and proceeds to buy her a bottle. They bond over the cough syrup and philosophize late into the night, exchanging notes on their immoral lifestyles.
