Ali Baba (Aziz Sattar) is a poor man who cannot succeed in life. He constantly sends his wife to his brother Kassim Baba's house to borrow flour so they can eat, but the stingy Kassim Baba (S. Shamsuddin) is frustrated at his brother and constantly reminds his wife, Aloyah, of Ali Baba's uselessness. When Aloyah comes to ask for flour for the umpteenth time, Kassim Baba loses his temper and lashes out at her sending her home in tears. She blames Ali Baba for putting her in the situation and blames him for not making an effort to seek a job. Ali Baba finally relents and goes out into the woods to gather firewood where he chances upon a group of 40 thieves marching through the woods carrying loot and treasures. He hides in a tree and watches their leader (P. Ramlee) stand in front of a cave and sings a verse of seemingly nonsensical words (niat ingsun matek aji semar ngising, actually a Javanese language poem) which causes an entrance to the cave to open. Ali Baba waits until the thieves have all left the cave before coming out of the tree and using the magic words to open the cave. Inside, he discovers a variety of riches and wealth, but only takes a box of gold coins.

Ghazali, un musicien local, et ses amis viennent à la rescousse de la Princesse Zaleha lorsque sa voiture se retrouve bloquée dans la boue lors d'un déluge. Elle les invite à se produire à la Villa Anggerik pour sa fête d’anniversaire. Alors qu'elle devient proche de Ghazali et qu'une romance se forme, son père et son demi-frère s'y oppose et lui impose de rester dans la villa. Elle demande alors à son père de pouvoir prendre des leçons de piano avec Ghazali, il accepte sans savoir qu'il est celui qu'elle convoite. Jours après jours, ils deviennent très liés, mais ils vont être très vite séparés quand son père s'en rend compte. Ghazail est battu jusqu'à l'évanouissement. Zaleha est ramenée à Singapour et est forcée d'épouser le Prince Mukri.

Ramli, Ajis and Sudin are a trio of bujang lapok (worn-out bachelors) waiting at a jetty for a boat to arrive and lead them across the river. The boat company is owned by a rich man named Ahmad Nisfu, who employs thugs to run the business and keep the passengers "in line". The thugs only allow certain people to take the boats early, while others have to wait a long time. An old man called Pendekar (meaning "master" or "warrior") Mustar wants to cross the river, but he is ill-treated by the thugs. When he continues to insist to be allowed to cross the river, he is dragged away to be beaten up, but he defeats all the thugs thereby scaring the rest into letting him ride the boat he wants. After bearing witness to the damage done by the pendekar, the trio decide to follow him and become his students. They proceed to create chaos at the jetty so that the thugs may get distracted and they then use the boats to sail their way to Kampung Pinang Sebatang.

Tun Nila Utama, the adopted prince in the kingdom Pura Cendana, is told by the King that it is time for him to choose a bride. However, Tun Nila refuses to marry any of the women in the kingdom, claiming that they not true "females" because they have no honour. The King is angered by his claim and orders him to find a true woman, if such a person exists. Tun Nila accepts the command and swears that he will not return to Pura Chendana or shave any hair on his face until he finds her.

Mr. Sham Hwa-kueng (沈華強) is a poor orphan from the Republic of China who moved to Malaysia hoping for a better life. He stays at his rich uncle Mr. Tiew Tin-shek (張天錫)’s residence. Mr. Tiew Tin-shek (張天錫) operated a "Sin Teik Seng (新德成) rubber firm" in Muar, Malaysia, his family is composed of his wife, Ms. Ngai (顏氏), eldest daughter Ms. Tiew Wai-ching (張慧貞) and a naughty son Mr. Tan Ping-fan (陳炳勳). In the early stage, Mr. Sham Hwa-kueng (沈華強) is appointed into the rubber firm as a trainee; his children like to play tricks on the innocent cousin Mr. Sham Hwa-kueng (沈華強), because he doesn’t know Nanyang custom. Meanwhile, the English clerk Mr. Kim Fook-sing (甘福勝), the antagonist, is making trouble. He wants to marry Ms. Tiew Wai-ching (張慧貞) for her family’s wealth. However, Ms. Tiew Wai-ching (張慧貞) prefers the newly arrived cousin Mr. Sham Hwa-kueng (沈華強). One day, Mr. Kim Fook-sing (甘福勝) finds Ms. Tiew Wai-ching (張慧貞) playing the piano in the sitting room, harmonizing with Mr. Sham Hwa-kueng's (沈華強) Chinese flute. Mr. Kim Fook-sing becomes angry because of this, and decides to play a trick on Mr. Sham Hwa-kueng (沈華強), so he tries to force him to resign his post, and move to work in Singapore. Ms. Tiew Wai-ching (張慧貞) realizes that Mr. Kim Fook-sing (甘福勝) is a playboy and hooligan, so then she goes to Singapore, and studies in a girls high school with her local friend Ms. Low Kit-yuk (劉潔玉), and falls in love with the friend's cousin, Mr. Sham Hwa-kueng (沈華強). Mr. Kim Fook-sing (甘福勝) successfully persuades Mr. Tiew Tin-shek (張天錫) to let him marry Ms. Tiew Wai-ching (張慧貞). Ms. Tiew Wai-ching (張慧貞) refuses her dad’s decision, and escapes into the jungle, where Mr. Kim Fook-sing (甘福勝) catches her with the help of his hooligan friend Mr. Chao Ping (趙丙). Mr. Sham Hwa-kueng (沈華強) enters the jungle to save his love Ms. Tiew Wai-ching (張慧貞), and fights off the python and crocodile for her. Eventually, Mr. Sham Hwa-kueng (沈華強) uses Chinese Kung Fu to battle Mr. Kim Fook-sing (甘福勝) and Mr. Chao Ping (趙丙). They are defeated, and drive away in an attempt to escape but they end up falling off a cliff. Finally, Ms. Tiew Wai-ching (張慧貞) gets her wish, and marries her cousin Mr. Sham Hwa-kueng (沈華強).
