Wild Bill Elliott (October 16, 1904 – November 26, 1965) was an American film actor. He specialized in playing the rugged heroes of B-Westerns, particularly in the Red Ryder series of films.

Biographie

Elliott was a breeder of appaloosa and spotted horses and showed them in breeder contests for best in breed. He showed his horses in the Western States contest in Colorado Springs, Colorado at The Broadmoor resort's stadium in 1953.

Elliott married Helen Josephine Meyers in February 1927. Their daughter, Barbara Helen Nance, was born October 14, 1927. Elliott and his wife were divorced in 1961, and Elliott remarried that same year, to Dolly Moore. Following his retirement in 1957, Elliott moved from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he bought a ranch. He died there from lung cancer on November 26, 1965, aged 61. He is interred at Palm Downtown Mortuary/Cemetery in Las Vegas.

In the 1890s town of Blue Springs, Jed Quinlan (Don Costello), the schoolteacher, breaks up a fight between tomboy Boots Hollister (Sylvia Arslan) and Little Beaver (Robert Blake), the Indian ward of Red Ryder’s. Each child has taunted the other with names like “wildcat” and “Indian.” Quinlan “disciplines” both children and later when the children return to the schoolhouse accompanied by Boots’ older brother Billy (John James) and Little Beaver’s Red Ryder’s (Wild Bill Elliott) aunt, The Duchess (Alice Fleming). Elsewhere, Quinlan meets with Con Hollister's (Francis McDonald) former cohort, Joe Slade (Bud Geary), who reveals that Con was released weeks earlier. Quinlan, who poses as a teacher to cover his criminal activity, reckons that Con should arrive on the next day's stage, and that the upcoming shipment must be Con's old loot, which was never recovered.

A geologist, Walter Garfield (LeRoy Mason, discovers oil on land owned by Ben Taylor (Jack Kirk). Believing that the deposits extend to the surrounding ranches as well, Garfield wires his company that oil may be present and then teams up with Red Ryder’s arch enemy, Ace Hanlon (Glenn Strange) . The president of Blue Springs Bank, Jason Hopkins (Tom Chatterton), seeks to entrap his cashier, Harrison Colby (Tom London), whom he suspects is exchanging the bank’s gold certificates with fake ones. Colby is caught and confesses but also incriminates his partner, Dandy Joe Meeker (Roy Barcroft). The worried Colby consults Meeker, who engages a gunslinger (Kenne Duncan) to kill Hopkins and then to pin the murder on Jim Douglas (Francis McDonald). Douglas, soon to be paroled from prison, had formally been arrested and convicted for a similar crime that he hadn’t committed. Hopkins meets Douglas in order to tell him the truth regarding his imprisonment but is killed by the gunman. Douglas is subsequently jailed for the murder. However, the gunman is captured by Red Ryder (Wild Bill Elliott) and his Indian ward, Little Beaver.

He manages to intercept a payroll robbery but finds that Little Beaver has been captured by the outlaws. An avalanche of crime prevents the Judge of Blue Springs (Tom Chatterton) from making this western town the new county seat. Behind the anarchy lie a number of devious citizens of a nearby town seeking to make certain that it is their town that is chosen. This town’s news editor, John Palmer (Herbert Rawlinson), head up the gang of lawless troublemakers that plot to defeat Blue Springs chances of success. Two Eastern youths, Danny Boyd and Lee Graham (Jay Kirby and Blake Edwards) ride into the situation and are mistaken for road agents. The outlaws frame the violence on Boyd whose friend, Lee, is unjustly murdered. Red Ryder and Little Beaver intervene to prevent Boyd from going after revenge. Editor Palmer is exposed as being head of the gang and is brought to justice, along with his gang of outlaws.
