Vinayan is an Indian film director, mainly of Malayalam movies. He started his career with the film Super Star, in which he used a Mohanlal look-alike in the lead role.
Vinayan is noted for the films Vasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum, Karumadikkuttan, Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan, Dada Sahib, Vellinakshatram, Aakasha Ganga and Sipayi Lahala. He has directed both comedy and serious films.
In 2005, Vinayan created history by writing and directing the film Albhuthadweep (Wonder Island) which cast around 300 midgets for the first time in a film. The two-foot-high hero of the film Ajayan found place in the Guinness Book of Records and India's Limca Book of Records. The film was immensely successful, especially among children, besides garnering the FilmFare and the Cinema Express awards. The film was successfully remade in 2007 in the Tamil language by Vinayan himself.
Vinayan has also remade a few of his films into Tamil. He is also a script writer and lyricist.
Vinayan is the founder/president of the MACTA Federation. He has also launched a co-operative society (with the assistance of the Government of Kerala) for the benefit of film workers. Vinayan is also the Advisory Member of the Cine Workers Welfare Board, sponsored by the Government of India.

The film shows how terrorist outfits use money to lure unemployed youth to do their bidding. A mentally challenged young woman wanders on the city streets creating a lot of commotion. Many people, including policemen, take advantage of her. A report on her miserable plight is aired on television. Following this, Aboobacker (Sphadikam George), a rich businessman, seeks out the young woman and gets her admitted to a hospital. Aboobacker is certain that the young woman is Raziya (Meghna).

The story circles around Sanjeev Kumar (Prithviraj) who is awaiting his selection into the police force. But it was being delayed by the then Police commissioner (Anandaraj) who is backed up by his political and underground relationships and has a grudge against Sanjeev's father. When things go beyond a limit, Sanjeev gets fed up, and locks up the Commissioner in a secret location. Sanjeev gets selected for the police force and joins as a Sub-Inspector in a police station near his home town, and gets a lot of praise for his work in curbing crime in the city. In the meanwhile, the Commissioner breaks out of his prison. Sanjeev manages to prove that the commissioner is insane. But he face lots of obstacles, his wife (Priyamani) is shot. His niece (Taruni Sachdev) & his father (Thilakan) is been kidnapped & The rest of the story shows how things turn out when they face each other again.

Vinod (Pritviraj) is in love with Aswathy (Karthika Mathew) a member of the Lakshmipuram royal family, which has many dark secrets. When Aswathy's mother refuses her to marry Vinod, she elopes and marries him. Just before the birth of their child, Vinod and Aswathy make up with the royal family consisting of two uncles, Pooradam Thirunal Valiya Koyi Thampuran (Jagathi Sreekumar) and Pooradam Thirunal cheriya Koyi Thampuran (Jagadeesh), and their wives. Later a child is born to them and Aswathy dies mysteriously during the delivery. Her grandmother is bedridden by now. The baby is called Ammu (Taruni Sachdev) and is looked after by the members of the family who start thinking that the little girl is possessed by an evil spirit. Vinod hires Indu(Meenakshi) to babysit Ammu. Later the family members understand that Indu is also possessed by an evil spirit.

The filim begins with Major Rajendran (Suresh Krishna) being killed by the Pakistani terrorists in the Indo-Pak border and the war between India and Pakistan begins. Pakistani Army led by General Jaffer Khan (Mukesh Rishi) sends a battalion to capture a village on the Indian side of the Line of Control. Indian Army Brigadier Nayar (Captain Raju) sends the Madras Regiment to recapture the village. Madras Regiment contains Lt.Col Sharath Chandran (Prabhu), Captain Gopinath (Dileep), Major Prabhakar (Saikumar), Captain Kabir (Siddique), Captain Vijayan (Vijayaraghavan), Havildar Kurian (Jagadish), Private Basheer (Kalabhavan Mani), Naik Haneefa, Havildar Prashanthan, Naik Kunjunni (Machan Varghese), Captain Hema (Indraja) and Private Shankar. They recaptured the village after a fierce gun battle that killed all the Pakistani soldiers. Prabhakar and Kunjunni died during this battle. Jaffer Khan was angered by this defeat and hatched a plan to capture the entire Madrasi Regiment alive. He calls Colonel Mushtaq Muhammad, an ISI agent in the Indian Army and pays him 5 crores rupees for capturing the Madras Regiment.
