Umesh Mehra (born August 6, 1953) is an Indian film director and Producer of Bollywood. He is the son of Bollywood producer F.C. Mehra. He was prominent in the 1980s and 90s with many Mithun Chakraborty starrers. He has also directed Akshay Kumar in a couple of movies. Some of his films are Yaar Gaddar, Shikari: The Hunter, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi and International Khiladi.

Yeh Mohabbat Hai revolves around Chand & Shaheen who are lovers from childhood. But her brother Shaukat (Mohnish Behl) is opposite from them. Chand gathers his team to play a cricket game. Due to his naivety he gets trapped in terrorists links of Abdul Jameel (Arbaaz Khan). Police Inspector Chauthe (Sadashiv Amrapurkar) claims that he has sufficient evidence to convict Chand. Shaheen believes that Chand is innocent and till he doesn't prove his innocence she will not marry him. So with the help of his friends Jaggi, Raj and Gullu, they set out to prove his innocence.

News Reporter Payal (Twinkle Khanna) and her camera-man have been assigned the task of interviewing the world's highest ranking criminal don, Devraj (Akshay Kumar), which they accept. In the process, Payal and Devraj fall in love with each other,much to the opposition of Bismillah (Mukesh Khanna), Devraj's guardian on one hand; and Police Inspector Amit (Rajat Bedi), and Payal's brother Ravi (Vivek Shauq) on the other. What results is that Ravi is killed with Devraj being blamed and arrested. Payal tesitifies against him, and Devraj is sentenced to be hanged. When Bismillah finds about this plot, he tracks them down, but Amit kills him to save himself and Payal. But Devraj escapes from custody, and begins to plot vengeance against his enemies, including Payal, as well as the real killer of Ravi. As the story unfolds, it is revealed that Amit was the one who killed Ravi and joined Thakral to frame Devraj for it. But Amit betrays Thakral and kills him. He then takes Payal on a flight where Devraj tracks him down and kills him. The story ends with Payal and Devraj getting married.

A cruel and evil landowner Jaganath Singh (Dilip Kumar) is murdered and his twin brother Amarnath Singh (also Dilip Kumar) decides to investigate. He finds the list of suspects is endless. The prime suspects are Jaganath's son Amar (Mukul Dev), Jaganath's abused wife Suman (Smita Jaykar) and a woman named Yamini (Rekha) who claims she was raped by Jaganath. Eventually Jaganath's son Amar confesses to killing his father. He reveals that on the night of his father's death he accidentally shot him while trying to fight him off when Jagannath held Amar and his mother at gunpoint. Soon after the list of suspects grow after it is discovered that Jaganath's had many more enemies who could have killed him including landowner Mangal Singh (Gulshan Grover) and even Jaganath's own brother Amarnath who doesn't seem to have got on well with Jaganath himself in the past.

Lallu (Akshay Kumar) is an orphan who was separated from his parents and his brother as a child and has been brought up by foster parents. He travels to Bombay to look for a job and starts working as a loyal servant for rich businessman Jamna Das (Avtar Gill). One day he discovers Jamna Das's daughter Sunita (Mamta Kulkarni) drunk in a nightclub and takes her home. Jamna Das realises how loyal Lallu is and how he never took advantage of Sunita in her drunken state decides to get them married. Sunita immediately refuses as she is in love with Amit (Mohnish Behl). When Jamna Das suddenly dies of a heart attack, his will and testament reveals that Sunita must get married to Lallu or she will not be entitled to any of his wealth and estate. Seeing no other option she marries Lallu but decides to have him killed with the help of Amit so that she can inherit all of her father's wealth. Sunita and Amit succeed in their plan to kill Lallu by poisoning him, putting him into a car, and crashing it to make it look like an accident. His death is considered suspicious, and the case is assigned to Inspector Vijay Kumar (also Akshay Kumar), who is a lookalike of the supposedly deceased Lallu.

Mithun is an honest police officer of the department and he is in love with Somy Ali. Even though he is a strict person to the outside world, he is lenient with his younger brother Saif at home. Saif Ali Khan, a "happy go lucky" guy falls in love with Shweta. Meantime, a group of five criminals (Prem Chopra, Gulshan Grover,Punit Issar, Amrit Pal and Sheila) plots a bank robbery and Saif is implicated in the robbery putting him on the run from the police. Officially Mithun is assigned the task of arresting Saif at any cost and he makes all efforts to nab Saif, but fails. Another important character is a governor, husband of Sheila. The situation become even worse when the members of the group are killed one by one. Mithun is now determined to catch Saif dead or alive. Meanwhile, Mithun also reveals that his girlfriend Somy Ali is a bar dancer who works in the bar owned by the same criminals. On the other hand, Saif also tries to collect evidence to prove his innocence to his brother, but gets in a bigger problem as Somy Ali sees him coming out of the house of the criminal who was killed.

Kedarnath is a wealthy man with many enemies. One day, a taxi-driver, Dilip Singh, saves his life, but is killed instead. Kedarnath is grateful and is willing to look after Dilip Singh's widow and son. But his enemies find out about this, and substitute a woman named Sheela and her son, Vikram, instead. The real widow is killed by them, and her son, Jimmy, is looked after by a kind-hearted poor Con-man, Jaggu, and his son, Gulu, who make their living stealing and begging. Years later, Jimmy and Gulu have grown up but are still stealing. Jimmy, on the run from hoods, ends up in Delhi, impersonating Rakesh Rajpal, and meets with Jyoti and falls in love with her.
