Le 30 octobre 1995, six ans après s’être évadé d’un commissariat de police grâce à l’intervention d’un mystérieux homme en noir le 31 octobre 1989, Michael Myers est retenu en otage par une secte, tout comme sa nièce Jamie Lloyd, 15 ans. Celle-ci vient de mettre au monde son enfant que la secte compte sacrifier. Elle réussit à s’échapper avec son bébé mais est tuée par Michael Myers. Pendant ce temps, Haddonfield se prépare à passer un 31 octobre en délaissant Halloween, fête sur laquelle plane l’ombre menaçante de Michael. Les Strode (famille adoptive de Laurie Strode) ont emménagé dans la maison des Myers. Tommy Doyle (le garçon que Laurie gardait dans le premier Halloween) maintenant adulte, Kara Strode (la nouvelle fille des Strode) et son fils Danny, étudient une ancienne malédiction qui semble planer sur ce dernier. Le docteur Loomis sort quant à lui de sa retraite pour traquer à nouveau le tueur d'Halloween. Le temps presse d'ailleurs, car après le meurtre de Jamie, la colère de Myers ne fait que croître. Tous les innocents qui croiseront la route du tueur au masque, comme la famille Strode et surtout, les membres de la secte qui l'ont gardés prisonniers vont devoir affronter la mort.

Gary Tison (Robert Mitchum) is serving two consecutive life sentences for murder, while his three young adolescent sons try to move on with their life. The oldest, Donny (James Spader) is the only son making something of his life. He is a pre-law student and is in a loving relationship with his high school sweetheart Carol (Catherine Mary Stewart). His younger brothers Ray (Lance Kerwin) and Ricky (Eric Stoltz) spend their days doing nothing and decide - convinced that he is innocent - to break their father out of jail. Donny, morally challenged, threatens to give them up the police. Noticing their determination, he agrees to go along, convinced that they can never break Gary out without his help. The three young men drive up to prison and Donny and Ricky use their guns to keep everyone hostage, while Ray breaks out Gary and his cellmate Randy Greenawalt (Stuart Margolin).

Stella Johnson (Barbara Eden) is a beautiful widowed single mother who lives in the town of Harper Valley, Ohio. She sells cosmetics door-to-door for the fictitious AngelGlo Cosmetics (akin to the real-life Avon). Her fourteen-year-old daughter is named Dee (Susan Swift), a student at Harper Valley Junior High School. Dee brings her mother a letter from the school's Parent Teacher Association board, which is led by the pompous and snobbish Flora Simpson Reilly (Audrey Christie). The letter denounces her for her not following the societal mores of the day and community and further stating that if she didn't change her ways more to the board's liking, Dee would be punished for her mother's sins by being expelled from school.
