Somu (Rahman) is an advertising photographer who exclusively works with female models. His family is a very modern family. His elder brother Balu (Nizhalgal Ravi) falls in love with his friend Maala (Ramya Krishnan), a modern woman, and he discloses it to Somu. They finally get married. Thereafter, the entire family searches a bride for Somu. In turn, Somu gets married with Sumathi (Sukanya) who is from a conservative strict family. Sumathi becomes a suspicious wife and she finds irritating her husband family's behaviours. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

Aadhityan (1992)

Aadhityan is an orphan village blacksmith, whereas the villagers consider him as a rude ruffian. The neighboring Zamindar (Kitty) forces the villagers to leave the village and they land in Aadhityan's village. Aadhityan helps them and clashes with Zamindar. In the meantime, Chinna Pandi (Pandiarajan), a Tamil teacher, is engaged to teach Tamil to the Telugu girl Manga (Silk Smitha). Zamindar finally accept the villagers in his village. Vedachellam (Delhi Ganesh) is a gambling addict who borrows money to Zamindar. Zamindar wants to get his son Vinod married to Vedachellam's daughter Rasathi (Sukanya). Under debts, Vedachellam accepts reluctantly Zamindar's proposal. Chinna Pandi advises Vedachellam, to save the village, to get Aadhityan married with Rasathi. The drunk Aadhityan tie the thaali around Rasathi's neck. Now, Rasathi is married to Aadhityan but she hates him.

V Sukumaran (Mammootty) is an upcoming youth wing leader of a minor party in the ruling coalition. His wife, Valsala (Shanthi Krishna) is a college lecturer and she takes care of family life which includes their school going son, Unni. She grows more and more tired of Sukumaran's lack of attention to her and family. Sukumaran is being taken advantage by party leadership who burdens him with nasty tasks while his junior co-workers accepts bribe in his name. They also invades to family's privacy and finance.

At the age of 5, an astrologer predicts that Nandini will bring much happiness to the family, but her marriage will based on her choice and not the choice of her brothers. This angers the brothers and to prevent this from happening, she is raised within the confines of the house.She is home schooled and when she does go out, all the men are warned to hide from Nandini and that seeing Nandini will be met with dire consequences.

On a study tour, Bhama (Suparna Anand), a final-year degree student, finds a wooden sculpture on the beach. She finds it beautiful and decides to keep it. The same night in her hotel room, when all her friends have gone for dinner, Bhama takes it out and keeps it on her bed. The sculpture magically turns into a young man (Nitish Bharadwaj), who passionately kisses Bhama. Bhama is attracted to him, but he vanishes. At her study leave, while preparing for examinations, Bhama again feels his presence. She moves towards a tree, but is stunned to find a beautiful blue butterfly. She hears his voice in the air, introducing himself as a gandharva who has developed a particular liking for her. At her request, he appears in front of her as a normal man. The gandharva asks her to call him Devan and she falls in love with him.

Achari (Goundamani), who has been humiliated by Thamarai, brainwashes and manipulates Sakkarai. So Sakkarai has a physical relation with Thamarai. Later, Thevar finds out their relationship and beats the innocent Sakkarai. Later, Thevar arranges his daughter's marriage with Senkodan, a drunkard. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

Malathi is from a rich family and her father Periya Thiruvadi (Venniradai Moorthy) only wants a rich groom, while Ganesan is poor guy. There comes Ganesan's uncle (Janagaraj) from Dubai and the lovers think that he is rich. Knowing the news, Thiruvadi is urged to prepare their wedding. His uncle turns out to be a simple hairdresser in Dubai. Ganesan, Malathi and his uncle decide to maintain the lie until the end of the wedding. What transpires later forms the crux of the story.

The central character of the film is a spiritual leader played by Nedumudi Venu who has devotees all around the world and who received a telephoned death threat. He reports the incident to Police Superintendent Haridas Damodaran (Mammootty) who initiates an investigation into the source of the threat. In the meantime, other important people are being murdered; the investigation later reveals that all of the victims were college classmates. Police arrest a suspect named "Christy" (Suresh Gopi) on murder charges. Proving whether Christy or an unknown perpetrator is the culprit forms the basis of the rest of the investigation.

The film takes place in a village after which the movie is titled. Revathy leads a cloistered life and does not visit anyone. She is worshipped as a holy lad upon whom the god comes down to give them orders periodically. Revathy was an orphan and is found by Janagaraj, who is a street performer. They go from house to house begging for food. One day a lonely woman, Sulakshana,(a secret prostitute of the village high man) accepts Revathy as her own daughter and janagaraj as her brother, into her own house and provides for them. After 10 years, revathy attains age and some days later finds sulakshan's occupation. She and janagaraj attempt to leave her house, but sulakshana suddenly falls ill and this stops their exit . After Sulakshana's death, Vijaykakumar, the head of the village, tries to take advantage of Revathi. But Revathi keeps dodging him and keeps herself chaste.

Vijaya) helps her daughter to elope with Kumaresan. A massive hunt is launched by the village head & what happened to the young lovers is the rest of the story….
