Magnus (Jussie Smollett), an affluent young medical student, is happily in a five-month relationship with his boyfriend, Ryan (Dustin Ross). Magnus's Brown University college friends join him in New York City for Gay Pride for the weekend: lesbian Yale University PhD student and gay-porn aficionado Langston (Shanika Warren-Markland); innocent and sometimes childlike Sebastian (Blake Young-Fountain), who has just come back from a year in Paris paid for by his parent's trust fund; promiscuous Kyle (Anthony Burrell), now living in Los Angeles and enjoying a career in film production; and witty and sarcastic Joey (Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman). Ryan gives Magnus the weekend alone to enjoy his time with his friends, and Magnus reveals to them that he and Ryan have agreed on a six-month abstinence pledge so they can appreciate one another more deeply than the physical level. Magnus takes them all to see the former home of Langston Hughes in Harlem, and the group reflects on their cultural history, while Magnus and Sebastian recite lines from Hughes's poetry.

While at home alone, Amber (Tulisa Contostavlos) is attacked and murdered. However, the murder is passed off as a suicide by Officer Bates (Ashley Walters). A group of troubled teens, including Archie (Robert Sheehan), Kenny (Jason Maza), Ashleigh (Shanika Warren-Markland), Ricky (Jacob Anderson), Jasmine (Jennie Jacques), Samantha (Emma Rigby), James (Jack Doolan) and Cain (Femi Oyeniran) have been contemplating suicide for a long time, and after hearing of Amber's death, decide to make a suicide pact and kill themselves at Ashleigh's upcoming party. However, as Samantha is making a suicide diary she is stabbed to death by a masked killer. Meanwhile, after Ashleigh leaves her house, Kenny breaks in with his friend Davey (Andrew Ellis) to set up cameras around her house, so the group's suicide can be recorded and Davey can exclusively release the footage. Meanwhile, Archie and Jasmine start a romance, which leads to Archie suggesting he and Jasmine remove themselves from the suicide pact, but this repels Jasmine. Soon after, Bates and his partner Mason (Reggie Yates) discover Samantha's death scene.

Tyson (Ashley Chin), Mannie (Jason Maza) and Jason (Michael Maris) grew up together in a tough inner-city world in London's East End, where no one could be trusted and everyone was out for themselves. With opportunities limited, it is crime that pays the bills and violence on the streets is how someone makes their mark. They make a living out of armed robberies with the help of eye candy Davina (Anna Nightingale) to seduce and lure drunken, unsuspecting rich City men in clubs, go back with them to their expensive flats, then Tyson and his crew move in, beat them up and steal everything.
