Sai Parānjpye (en marathi : सई परांजपे), née à Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh, Inde) le 19 mars 1938, est une réalisatrice et scénariste indienne. Elle a dirigé les films primés Sparsh, Katha, Chasme Buddoor et Disha. Elle a écrit et mis en scène plusieurs pièces de théâtre en marathi comme Jaswandi, Sakkhe Shejari et Albel.

Jia, an anthropologist comes to the forests to study tribals where she meets Kabir Sagar, a forest officer. Fiercely protective of forest, Kabir initially resents Jia's visit, taking her to be another pretentious expert on an excursion. Jia returns the cold vibes but takes a liking to his assistant Bichhua, a local tribal. Who takes her to where he lives in the interiors. There she comes to know the designs of timber mafia out to axe trees in the forest and a local landlord Mangeram in cahoots with a multinational company out to acquire the forest land. Jia and Kabir too come close. Kabir presents her an ornate comb, a tribal man's way of professing his love. But she wards off any ideas of romantic involvement. Meanwhile men in the village are coaxed into cutting trees but women plan to defy them aided by Jia and Bichhua. As men come with axes to cut trees they are confronted by women from their own families clutching on to a tree each. The forest is saved and Bichhua's wedding festivities are on when Jia, who has been offered a scholarship to study abroad, in the meanwhile, makes a surprise appearance wearing the comb in her hair.

Siddharth (Farooq Shaikh), Omi (Rakesh Bedi) and Jomo (Ravi Baswani) are close friends and room mates who are studying at Delhi University. Siddharth has completed M.A in Economics and is preparing for PhD. While Siddharth is a studious boy who loves to spend most of his time with books, his other two friends- Omi and Jomo are mostly busy chasing girls, watching movies or dramas. The only thing common among three of them is smoking. One day, Omi and Jomo see a girl (Neha) who is new to their neighborhood and try to impress her by their tricks. However, both of them give up after experiencing shameful events. After some days, Neha (Deepti Naval) visits their flat as the salesgirl of Chamko washing powder. As soon as Jomo and Omi see her, they hide quickly. Siddharth meets Neha for the first time and soon a love story begins. But when his other two friends find out, they decide to plot something to end their relationship and also to seek revenge to the embarrassment inflicted upon them by the girl. Initially, they succeed in separating Siddharth and Neha but later on repent when they realise that Siddharth has started losing his interest in work and study and is most likely to end his life as well. Finally, they decide to reunite both the lovers.

Anirudh (Naseeruddin Shah) rencontre pour la première fois Kavita (Shabana Azmi) lorsqu'il entre par erreur chez elle. Kavita est musicienne, et c'est guidé par son chant qu'Anirudh arrive chez elle. Ils se retrouvent quelques jours plus tard chez Manju (Sudha Chopra), une amie de Kavita dont le mari connaît Anirudh. Anirudh propose à Kavita de venir faire du bénévolat au sein de son institution, dans le cadre d'un programme visant à rapprocher non-voyants et voyants. Kavita, qui mène une vie de recluse depuis le décès de son époux trois ans auparavant, commence par refuser mais change d'avis après une visite dans l'atelier des enfants. Elle accepte de venir régulièrement raconter des histoires aux enfants ou leur apprendre des chansons. Encouragée par Manju, elle commence aussi à fréquenter Anirudh en dehors de l'institution. Leur relation est cependant rendue difficile tant par les difficultés qu'éprouve Kavita à faire le deuil de son mari que par l’extrême susceptibilité d'Anirudh, complexé par son handicap. Peu après leurs fiançailles, une série de remarques faites par leurs proches amène Anirudh à penser que Kavita l'épouse plus par pitié et par sens du sacrifice que par amour. Il rompt alors leurs fiançailles sans donner d'explications. Mais Kavita, qui s'était de plus en plus impliquée dans la vie de l'institution, continue de venir y travailler. Anirudh ne supporte pas de l'y rencontrer tous les jours, et lui demande de mettre fin à ses activités auprès des enfants. C'est Manju qui résout alors la situation en expliquant à Anirudh que Kavita a autant besoin de lui qu'il a besoin d'elle. Les dernières images du film montrent Anirudh se dirigeant vers la maison de Kavita.

Siddharth, Omi et Jai sont des amis proches et des colocataires qui étudient à l'Université de Delhi. Siddharth a terminé sa maîtrise en économie et se prépare à un doctorat. Gopan (Mukesh), Kora (Jagadish) and Bhakthavalsan (Sreenivasan) are three college students who share same house along with Prem (Shankar), another classmate. While the trio are more interested in loafing their time by flirting with girls, Prem is more serious in his attitude towards life. On a usual encounter, the trio meets Major Nair (Nedumudi Venu), a retired man in his fifties, who but loves romancing young girls. After a series of ego clashes, Nair learns that the trio is trying to woo his daughter Minu (Lizy). Nair, enraged, challenges them to make his daughter fall for them. Accepting the challenge the trio start to make her fell for them. Minu, who seriously shows concern towards the handicapped people, falls in love with Prem, whom she thinks to be handicapped. Meanwhile, Nair bets with Govind (Sreenath), another street romeo, who is but married to a beautiful innocent girl (Menaka). Nair agrees that he would shave his head if Minu falls in love with anyone within 4 months. Govind says that he would shave his mustache to half if he loses the bet.
