Ramesh Sippy est un réalisateur et producteur indien, essentiellement connu pour son film Sholay. Il est le fils du producteur G.P. Sippy, et son fils Rohan Sippy est également réalisateur et producteur. Sa fille Sheena est mariée au fils de Shashi Kapoor, Kunal Kapoor. Lui-même s'est marié à deux reprises, la seconde fois avec l'actrice Kiran Juneja.
Ramesh Sippy fut immergé très jeune dans l'univers du cinéma : âgé de six ans à peine il parcourait les décors du film Sazaa, le premier de son père. À neuf ans, il tint le rôle du fils d'Achala Sachdev dans Shahenshah. Il travailla simultanément à la production et à la réalisation de plusieurs films comme Johar-Mehmood in Goa et Mere Sanam, aux côtés de son père. Après sept ans passés comme assistant, il dirigea Andaaz en 1969. Le succès fut au rendez-vous de son second film, Seeta Aur Geeta en 1972.
En 1975, il réalisa Sholay, qui est un des plus grands succès de l'histoire de Bollywood. Par la suite, il dirigea Shaan (1980) et Shakti (1982) également très populaires et considérés comme des classiques du genre.
Son dernier film est Zamaana Deewana en 1995.
Il a aussi réalisé une série télévisée à succès, Buniyaad, avec pour comme premier rôle Mazhar Khan.

Sachin Kulkarni (Prateik Babbar) is a student of mechanical engineering in Mumbai who aspires to become a filmmaker. His friend introduces him to cinematographer Anay (Manu Rishi). With Anay's help Sachin becomes an assistant to director Ramesh Sippy. Sachin's family, who are Marathi Brahmins, rent Jessie Thekekuttu's (Amy Jackson) house. Jessie is from a conservative Malayali Nasrani Christian family from Alappuzha, Kerala, that lives upstairs. Sachin falls in love with Jessie the moment he meets her. Sachin tries to interact with Jessie, who is afraid of speaking to men around her strict father, and ends up angering Jessie. Unable to hide his feelings for her any longer, Sachin confesses his love for her, to which she does not respond. A few days later, Sachin learns from his sister that Jessie has gone to Kerala to visit her grandmother. He, along with Anay, ends up in Kerala to look for her. After several days, he finds her, apologises and she introduces him to her family in Kerala as her "classmate". Jessie denies she has any feelings for him, but agrees to be his friend. On the train journey back home, however, the two get closer and share a passionate kiss. Sachin is convinced Jessie loves him; the two meet several times and Jessie begins to admit that she also likes Sachin, but wants to refrain from any problems because she knows her father wouldn't give her hand in marriage to a Hindu. Consequently, due to various misunderstandings between Jessie's brother and Sachin, her parents learn of their supposed affair. They fix a match and schedule her wedding. The day arrives and midway through the ceremony, Jessie refuses to marry the groom, displeasing everyone in her family. Sachin, who had, without anyone's knowledge, come to Kerala to witness the wedding is ecstatic and secretly visits Jessie at her home. It is then that Jessie admits she has indeed fallen in love with him. Sachin and Jessie continue to love each other without the knowledge of their parents.

Professor Sukesh Dutt (Vijay Anand) and Archana Gupta (Jaya Bhaduri) meet each other in a chance encounter while traveling by BEST bus service in Mumbai. Their meeting again results in formal introduction to each other. Both get attracted to each other and get married. Archana's mother does not like Sukesh due to his modest income. Advocate Rai Bahadur is a respected lawyer, who has no children. He has an affair with a prostitute Meher who then becomes pregnant with his child. His wife also get pregnant at the same time and both his wife and Meher give birth to baby boys in the same hospital and same day. When Rai Bahadur came to know that Meher also gave birth to his son, he went to meet her in hospital but Meher warns him of dire consequences if he will not give his son his due rights. She blackmail him and ask her to change her baby with his wife's baby. Helpless Rai Bahadur ask a nurse to change the babies and offered money. Nurse agreed but later her conscience does not allow her to do the wrongful. She did not change the babies but said Rai Bahadur that she has changed the babies. Now Rai Bahadur thinks that the boy in his house "Kishore" is from prostitute Meher and the boy with Meher is from his wife. He start dislike his son "Kishor" in his Bungalow and star liking the other one "Pran". He somehow throw "Kishore" with his mother out of the bungalow and bring "Pran" mistaking "Pran" as from his wife. Now "Kishore" raised in poor life with both Meher and Mrs Rai Bahadur and "Pran" raised in bungalow. Both become boxers in the same boxing club. Kishore always betters Pran but denied his right every time due to Pran's unfair tricks.
