Ashwin Kumar (Jiiva) is a photojournalist working for the private newspaper Dina Anjal. He witnesses Naxalites robbing a local bank. He chases them and manages to click photos of the robbers. When he tries to escape, he is stopped by a young woman Renuka 'renu' (Karthika Nair) who assumes he is the culprit and helps the robbers to take his camera. However, he is able to secure the memory card of the camera. The police catch him, and to prove that he is a press photographer, he shows the photos to the them, who identify everyone except the gang leader (whose face is covered by a mask). At his office, he again meets Renuka, who has newly joined as Article Editor. Saraswathi 'saro' (Piaa Bajpai) also works in his office and has feelings for Ashwin, who does not reciprocate.

Azhagu and Mike are thick friends and go lucky,jobless youths who just roam around doing nothing.They meet Priya in a train while trying to escape from a few goons who were chasing them for a reason. Initially they take Priya for a prostitute but later understand that she is actually a doctor. Azhagu falls for her immediately and decides that he should become an Engineer, so that he can marry Priya the Doctor. Priya is saved by Azhagu from a man who tries to kill her. Azhagu then listens to her story. Priya had a friend Kalpana,who was from a village where Priya went for a medical camp.There she learns that the people of that village are affected by potential cancer and other effects due to the Steel factory owned by Selva Vinayagam. Priya enters the company with the help of kalpana,who works there. Priya gathers proofs and talks with Selva to provide Safety equipments to the workers so that no one gets affected further. But selva denies and insults Priya, who leaves the place. Back in the factory, Kalpana operates a costly machine and unfortunately gets her hand stuck in it, resulting in huge blood loss. Priya begs the owners to dismantle the machine, so that kalpana can be saved, but the owners are reluctant and Kalpana dies as a result. Hence Priya decides to sue the company and files a case against them. The case is being heard the next day and if Priya makes it to the Court, the company will lose the case. So she is being targeted by Selva's men . How Azhagu and Mike help Priya escape the goons and Whether they help her to win the case forms the rest of the story.

The story revolves around three roommates, journalist J K Boss(Arya), photographer Nagaraj(Santhanam) and Cheenu (Premji) leading an unkempt and debt-ridden life in a shoddy apartment. J K's ditsy fiancée, Madhumita, is an air hostess who agrees to deliver a package for Vladimir Dragunsky (Kim Bodnia) to Nassar, without realizing its contents or that Nassar is a gangster. Madhumita asks J K to deliver the package. JK, in turn, asks Nagaraj to do so. But Nagaraj is unable to do so as he is experiencing 'Chennai Belly'. Nagaraj hands Madhumita's package to Cheenu for delivery to Nassar, along with a package containing his stool sample for delivery to Nagaraj's doctor. Cheenu mixes up the two packages which makes Nassar furious and he starts the investigation by interrogating Vladimir.

In retaliation, the older brother throws the younger one into a well. Watching him get drowned in the well, the older brother runs away from the village.

Anjali (Tamannaah) is a college student who is going to her hometown Theni for vacation. Anjali is bubbly and talkative and thoroughly irritates Shakthi. She tells him of her plans to elope with her lover Gautham. At night, Shakthi leaves the train. Anjali wakes up to find him gone. Seeing him sitting on the platform, she gets off the train to bring him back. As a result she misses the train. She tells Shakthi that it is his responsibility to take her back to the train. Annoyed, he takes her to the next station so that she can board the train and leaves her. Anjali again misses the train. While she is waiting for a taxi to reach the next station, some gangsters chase her, but she runs into Shakthi who fights them off.
