Biographie
Après des études d'art dramatique à la Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art de Londres, Patricia Laffan contribue pour le cinéma à treize films britanniques, sortis entre 1945 et 1964. L'un de ses plus connus est le film de science-fiction La Martienne diabolique de David MacDonald (1954), où elle tient le rôle principal.Elle tourne également deux films américains, Quo vadis de Mervyn LeRoy (1951 ; rôle de Poppée, épouse de Néron, personnifié par Peter Ustinov), puis À vingt-trois pas du mystère d'Henry Hathaway (1956, avec Van Johnson et Vera Miles).

After pulling off a small train robbery, 'Little Walter' and his gang are forced to hide out on a remote Cornish island in an abandoned monastery, disguised as monks. With them comes 'Bikini' (Barbara Windsor), Walter's girlfriend, who is given the job of cook to the group, despite never having cooked in her life. After a few initial setbacks, they slowly adjust to their new contemplative life of tending animals and crops, surviving the added tribulations of visits by a group of tourists and two of the real monks who had been forced to sell the monastery after falling on hard times, including Brother Lucius (Corin Redgrave).

Le dramaturge à succès Hanon s'est installé à Londres, fuyant les États-Unis et la femme qu'il aime depuis qu'il est devenu subitement aveugle. Or, sa fiancée le relance et entend renouer. Il tente de l'écarter en lui expliquant qu'il s'est refait une vie, secondé par un secrétaire, qui lui fait également office de valet de chambre, ayant même appris à se déplacer sans aide jusqu'au pub du coin. Un jour que, dans cet établissement, il est attablé, seul, il entend une conversation où il est question de kidnapping et de meurtre. Il alerte la police qui n'est guère convaincue par sa déposition, même s'il a enregistré de mémoire, l'échange entendu dès son retour à l'appartement.

Sur Mars où la technologie est très avancée, une meurtrière guerre des sexes a amené les femmes au pouvoir et entrainée la quasi élimination des hommes. La conséquence est l'infertilité de la planète rouge. Nyah, une dignitaire martienne de haut rang est donc envoyée sur Terre afin d'y ramener des hommes susceptibles de fertiliser la population. La soucoupe volante de Nyah devait atterrir sur Londres mais une collision avec un avion l'a obligé de reporter cet atterrissage dans la campagne écossaise.

An American, Steve Rossi, enters Britain by slipping past immigration at Heathrow Airport, leading to a national manhunt by the police. He is finally intercepted by Joan Miller, an MI5 agent, who takes him to her superiors. The plot follows the career of upper-class cad Vivian Kenway (Rex Harrison). He is sent down from Oxford University for placing a chamber pot on the Martyrs' Memorial.
