Suresh Unnithan P. is a Malayalam film director.

Biographie

His start in film was as an assistant director to Padmarajan, the most renowned film director, from whom he learned the basics and craft of film making. Later he debuted with Jaathakam, which was well acclaimed by the critics and was a huge hit. The same film won the Best Newcomer Director award at the Kerala State Film Awards. Later he directed films like Radhamadhavam, Aardram, Mukha Chitram, Uthsavamelam, Sathyaparatinja, Bhagyavaan, Thovalapoockal, Rishya Sringan and others. He entered the television industry and had some hit serials. His 2004 serial project Swamy Ayyappan was the most popular and top rated serial in Malayalam.

After 12 years break Suresh Unnithan made a come back with Ayaal, with Lal and Iniya playing the leads.

His son Abhiram Suresh Unnithan, also became a film maker with Yakshi – Faithfully Yours starring Shivakumar Nair in 2012.

Set in late 1950s the film uses the symbols of Serpentine Worship and socio political rebellions during that period of time to create an ambience for storytelling. The protagonist Dasan was a practicing Pulluvan, who had an aura of ascribed divinity around him. He had two wives, Janaki and Chakara. Janaki’s love with Dasan was platonic, but Chakara true to her name was possessive. Dasan along the course of time becomes passionate with Devaki Antharjanam, the wife of the village landlord as well. Be it wine, women or smoke, Dasan had no restrictions. His mastery over the profession was unparalleled. Due to the ascribed divinity around him, he was unquestioned. But not for too long, something happens which makes his life topsy turvy! The event also brings out the tenacity and quality of relations he had.
