Menaka (born 27 August 1963) is an Indian film actress and producer. She was a native from Nagercoil of Tamil Nadu. In her short film career 1980–86, Menaka acted in 116 films, mostly in Malayalam. She did a few movies in Tamil, Kannada and Telugu. She has worked with many leading actors of the time, including the Prem Nazir, Soman and Sukumaran,and opposite to the top actors of the 1980s like Shankar and Nedumudi Venu. She has acted opposite current superstars Mammootty, Mohanlal, Rajinikanth. After 19 years, she made a comeback through the teleserial Kaliveedu directed by Purusothaman and produced by A.Radhakrishnan. Again after six years, she made a comeback on the big screen through Fazil's 2011 film Living Together.
Menaka married film producer Suresh Kumar at the Lord Krishna temple, at Guruvayur, on 27 October 1987. She produces films under the banner Revathy Kalamandhir. She has two daughters: Revathi and Keerthi. Keerthi as a child actress acted in Kuberan starring Dileep, Bijumenon starred Achaneyanenikkishtam and Pilots with Suresh Gopi. She acted in Priyadarshan's movie Geethaanjali as heroine.

Shyama is a free spirit who lost her parents at a young age. After their death, she becomes attached to her grandfather and uncle. She is brought in a wrong manner and she used to flirt with boys. She becomes friendly with Hemachandran, a boy in the neighbourhood who falls in love with her. However, she moves away from the locality. Later, Hemanth discovers Shyama does love him. However, Shyama is not willing for a marriage as she is told that either she or Hemachandran will die after six months from the marriage. The story continues to tell how they overcome this obstacle in their relationship and family problems.

The film is a socio-centric story of education system that existed in the period 80's - 90's in Kerala. Divakaran, in search of a good job acquires fake certificates from Mysore TTC and becomes a teacher in a government aided lower primary school run by a corrupt manager. The thatched school is deplorable in every conditions. Children mainly comes for the food that is served. The teachers come mainly for getting the money and do not care about the kids or the facilities in the school. The corrupt manager runs the school as a business for getting grants and making money from appointments. In the climax the hero relaises his mistake from guilt which was seeded by his father and took form when the dilapidated school causes death of 3 students. In the turn of events Divakaran surrenders to police for using a fake teaching certificate. The narration is typical "Sreenivasan" style, through a cozy blanket of comedy, he explains the socioeconomic & political milieu existing in Kerala through a set of events. It is a relevant movie since contemporary incidents of the same nature are revealed through newspapers and increasing day by day even in the 21st century.

Revathi's (Lizy) parents separated when she was young; she was raised by her mother who taught her that her father (Bharath Gopi) was a bad man. Shivasubrahmaniam (Maniyan Pillai Raju), an innocent bank employee is in love with Rohini (Lizzy), but is afraid to express her his love. His grandmother but wants him to be a Brahmachari and become a priest at the nearby temple. Rohini is working as an artist at the Keerikkad ballet troupe run by Keerikkad Chellappan Nair (Nedumudi Venu). As per the advice of Shankaran Pillai (Jagathi Sreekumar), the assistant of Chellapan Nair, Subru joins the ballet troupe to woo Rohini. She is attracted to his innocent and straight forward behavior and fells in love with him. One day, when missed her bus, Rohini asks a car driver a lift, and she is dropped at the ballet troupe office. Accidentally the car belongs to Suresh Menon (Shankar), a rich business tycoon of the area. Sankaran and Chellappan Nair mistakes her to be in love with Suresh Menon. Chellappan, to appease Suresh Menon offers heroine's role to Rohini and gives an increment. Subrahmaniam is suspended from bank for not attending office for long time. Due to certain misunderstandings, Rohini breaks up with him, hurting him deeply. Subru is also thrown out of the troupe by Chellappan Nair for not performing up to the mark. In the mean time Suresh Menon on knowing about Rohini and her claims of being his girl friend appears in front of her. Not knowing that he is original Suresh Menon, she takes his help in solving out the mess created at the ballet troupe. Suresh Menon solving out the mess and uniting Subru with Rohini forms the rest of the story.
