Hareendranath Nair (Prithviraj) is an Indian soldier guarding an Indian picket in Kashmir. He happens to meet a Pakistani soldier Mushraff (Javed Jaffrey) on one fine day. They immediately relate to each other and despite of being from different countries they seem to understand each other better than anyone else. They eventually become close friends and start to enhance the morale of each other. However, their friendship raises suspicions among others. They even put into question the genuineness of their patriotism which break their heart. They find themselves in nether world and the story proceeds to tell the hardship they have to go through for their friendship. It is not just with the Pakistani soldier he shares special bond, he also considers a dog by the name Baccardi as his companion. He even does not permit anyone to call him dog. He confides in the dog his inner thoughts and emotions which lifts his spirit slightly even at the most difficult times.

Manaf Hussain Kalabhavan Mani is a painter cum dramatist. Ramu (Kannan) is his assistant. The story that Manaf decides to adapt for the stage is that of Yayathi's, the celebrated king of the Lunar dynasty who falls in love with both Devayani and Sharmishta. Kochukunju (Prithviraj) is the spoiled son of the well-known Vadakkan Veettil family in Kannur. He is the son of Kathreena (Ambika), who believes that his formal father David (Saikumar) has died (his life was actually spared by the killer sent out by his brothers to kill him). Captain Raju and Vijayaraghavan play the major old-age characters. In the film, Vijayaraghavan plays a double role as Kochousepp, the ancestor of the family, and one of his three sons. The hidden secrets of an attempted murder are revealed through portrayal of circumstances that three different girls pass through in their life. Aswathy, a textiles shop employee, is staying with her bedridden and sick mother. She looks after the family with her meager salary. Kartika is a girl who is bestowed upon lots of love and affection by her parents. Her life zooms into a crisis when she comes to know of the secrets of her father’s profession. The third girl, Rohini, lives in luxury and has tremendously rich parents. But the uneasiness and unhappiness in the family atmosphere makes her very very sad. She elopes with her very poor lover. Her father engages hired hoodlums to get her back after beating up the lover. She decides to commit suicide. Aswathy ‘s mother comes in search of Indusekharan, Rohini’s father. Aswathy is actually an illegitimate daughter of Indusekharan. But Indusekharan decides to get Aswathy murdered. The person whom he engages to do this murder is Kartika’s father. He comes towards Aswathy as the messenger of death.

The film is set in modern Kuttanad, Kerala, and revolves around the lives of a Vallamkali (boatrace) fanatic named Kochu Kunju and his family. After buying the boat, Kochu Kunju had to face further problems; his boatmen were attacked and he himself had to lead the boat. However, the ultimate success is for Kochu Kunju.
