Matthew James Thomas (Born 1988), also occasionally credited as Matthew Thomas, is a British actor and singer who has made appearances in television, film, and theater. He is known for his television roles including the BAFTA and Emmy Award-winning, The Lost Prince, and the ITV drama-musical show, Britannia High. Thomas is also recognized for his performance in the title role of the 2013 revival of Pippin, which received a Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. He was also a late addition to the U.S. national tour of Pippin in 2014. He had his Broadway debut in 2010 playing Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.
In 2013, Thomas was nominated for an Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Actor in a Musical for his performance in the title role in Pippin, and, in 2015, he was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical for his performance as Fenwick in the Barry Levinson-produced musical, Diner. Later in 2015, he was cast alongside Eddie Izzard in the HBO pilot, The Devil You Know, an upcoming drama program created by Jenji Kohan.

Dans le Nord-est de l'Angleterre, en 1984, Billy Elliot est un jeune garçon de onze ans qui habite dans une petite ville minière du comté de Durham avec son père Jackie, son frère aîné Tony et sa grand-mère, sa mère étant décédée. Comme tout le voisinage, Jackie et Tony font le même métier : mineur. Billy quant à lui, va encore à l'école puis fait de la boxe après la classe. En effet son père le pousse à ce sport, croyant qu'une réussite est possible dans ce domaine et permettrait à la famille de se sortir de l'embarras financier dans laquelle elle se trouve, d'autant plus que Jackie et Tony se sont engagés dans une grève générale pour défendre les salaires des mineurs. Mais Billy n'aime pas beaucoup la boxe et présente soudain une curiosité pour le cours de danse qui partage désormais le local avec son club et constitué uniquement de filles.
