Ashok (Venkatesh) is an advocate who works as a junior along with his two friends Raghava (Maharshi Raghava) & Bhaskar for advocate Durga Prasad (Vijay Kumar) who always fights for Justice. Durga Prasad and his wife Lakshmi (Sangeetha) treat them as their own children. Venkataratnam (Kota Srinivasa Rao) is a powerful contractor who has the entire system in his hands. Once Venkataratnam cheats Govt by saying that he has constructed a hostel for poor people without doing it, just showing on papers. Durga Prasad takes up the case and gathers all the proofs against him. Venkataratnam threatens Durga Prasad a lot who does not yield to it. Finally, Venkataratnam kills Durga Prasad and his wife Lakshmi in front of the court and destroys all the evidence. Before dying, Durga Prasad takes a word from Ashok, that he should win this case in any circumstances. Ashok gives respect to his words and takes up the case, but he fails to get the case admitted because there is no evidence. In that frustration, Ashok reacts on Venkataratnam publicly in court, which leads to his suspension from the court and he has been arrested.

Seenu (Venkatesh) is an honest, not-too-good-looking, village artist who comes to the city to find a job. He ends up being a banner artist. Shwetha (Twinkle Khanna) is a U.S. citizen, who loves India and its culture and stays with her relatives to learn Bharatanatyam. She is a soft natured, loving girl who loves to help people in distress but cannot stand it if anyone lies or cheats. Initially when these two meet, she mistakes Seenu to be a mute and pities him. Swetha's occasional friendlier association with Seenu, in the means of helping, gradually blossoms into love. By this time, it is too late for the guilt-ridden Seenu to disclose the truth as he feared the risk of losing her. Despite all his efforts to reveal the truth, Swetha comes to know of his sham by herself. However at the end she realises Seenu's true intentions for acting as a mute and forgives him. However at the climax, when Swetha asks Seenu to speak to her, he keeps silent because he had asked a doctor to cut his tongue so that he could be the Swetha had come to love.

Satyam (Nassar) is a driver and his wife Sarada (Madhavi) is a music teacher. They were both orphans brought up in the Seva Ashram (run by Charuhasan). Sarada and Satyam have four kids. Satyam, though good at heart, is addicted to liquor. Apparao (Tanikella Bharani), a toddy milk vendor, has an eye on Sarada. When Satyam discovers Apparao making advances on Sarada, he assaults him in front of everyone. Avenging the assault, Apparao kills Satyam. Sarada, who is diagnosed with cancer, wants her children to be brought up in a family atmosphere rather than in the Ashram and the children are adopted by different families.

The story begins starts with the birth of a baby girl, Nandini, in the world of feudal landlords (Zamindars) whose word is a law for the villagers who work on their land. Nandini's three brothers throw a feast in honor of the girl child. The young son of the local singer (who had died) is brought in to sing for the event. The three brothers raise Nandini like their own child as their parents had died. At the age of 5, an astrologer predicts that Nandini will bring much happiness to the family, but her marriage will be based on her choice and not the choice of her brothers. This angers the brothers and to prevent this from happening, she is raised within the confines of the house.She is home schooled and when she does go out, all the men are warned to hide from Nandini and that seeing Nandini will be met with dire consequences.
